That usually what happens. You can get friends or family to carry the coffin or the undertakers will do it. The coffin is brought in when all the mourners are in the church and they stand while it taken to the front. At the end, the coffin is taken out before the mourners leave, put in the car and taken to the cemetary for the burial service. Hope this helps.
As far as I remember, yes. In some funerals the coffin is brought in near the start and spends it's time at the front, covered in flowers etc. At the end of the service it is carried out down the aisle and taken into the hearse.
I went to a Humanist funeral a while ago and the coffin was brought in at the end, paraded around a bit and taken out again. I think the car then goes with the family to the Crematory/burial ground.

thanks for your quick answers, very helpful, cheers.
I was told it was up to me.If I wanted the coffin to be already at the front of the church that was OK otherwise it would be brought in afer the congregation were in place. The undertakers were pallbeareres and stood by the door till then. The cofin remained up by the alter until the end of the ceremony and was then carried out by the undertakers and we were invited to follow it out. We all then travelled to the cemetary for interment. For a cremation it is, of , different.
1 floral tribute was on the coffin in church the rest in the hearse they were then arranged around the burial site at commital and put on top later. We had a short few words by the priest at the graveside. WE chose what we wanted for the service and the undertakers had the sheets printed and arranged it all for us, they were so nice, hope this helps. PS It is sometimes possible to visit your loved one to say goodbye and put a token of your choice in the coffin at the undertakers a day or so before the burial if you wish.
