Ray ... help ...

It's very rural; where I live and the supply is a bit unstable at times.
Any slight' blip' in the supply causes my RCD to trip, whereas my neighbour's doesn't.

Is it possible to have an RCD that's 'too sensitive'?

Or is it likely to be summat else?

Thanks mate ... Naz

Hi naz,

That is odd,I have just come on here a few minutes ago, hope you are well,

naz it is possible that the RCCD has become over sensitive, is it a 30 ma one or 100 ma ? they are quite easy to change, but if you haven't got a main switch to isolate supply it would probably need a sparky to do it,let me know which one it is naz, Ray

Hi Ray ...

quick response mate ...

It's a 30mA one ... and it's not a problem to change it.
Hi naz,

Is it only tripping when a bulb goes or is it tripping for no apparant reason? if you want to change it,they are not very expensive probably 25-30 + vat make sure if you do change it,if it is controlling whole property put in an 80amp 30ma one, hope this helps you, take care, good to see your name back on here, Ray
Question Author
Ray, it's tripping for no reason (except the weather maybe?).

It is an 80A / 30mA one ... less than 4 years old (if that matters?)

Would a 100mA one be less inclined to trip as easily?
Hi naz.

I would stick with a 30ma,if it is tripping for no reason,it must be very sensitive, also before replacing, check all connections in consumer unit, just in case something is slightly loose, so have a look in unit first,Ray
This is the body and soul section.

What have you guys been discussing?
The body and soul of a naughty RCCD wolf,
lol ray nice come back there
Question Author
wolf63 ... until Ray has his own section, it's going in here, ok?

Thanks for the expert advice Ray. I'll check out the unit just in case.

The supplier tells me they removed a squirrel from the lines earlier and (apparently) it was affecting a 'feeder' down the road, which in turn causes ours to dip (like I said, apparently).

Cheers again ... if electricians were guitar players you'd be a Stevie Ray Vaughan, or at very least a Jimi Hendrix. If you're not up on guitar players, it means you're the best.

Cheers naz,

Can I be Jimmy page or Jeff Beck two of my faves or eric "slowhand" all 3 played in one of my favourite groups, the Yardbirds.

Hope you sort it naz, if you can't put another post on you are in Mid Wales aren't you ? if you put the Kettle on I would pop down one saturday and have a look, No Charge, just a cuppa, take it easy naz.
