Thank you for the reply but i am trying to find some natural alternatives,do you have stable levels of weight or does it fluctuate. since you have been on your medication? ms.skippy
Yes.. see your GP.He will moniter the levels as wonder years said .I too take thyroxine ..same dose . If it's borderline though sometimes the GP is reluctant to give thyroxine as it can then make you hyper. Then kelp is a great help and any foods rich in iodine. I know this is a Vegan site but it gives you the gist

my wife takes eltroxin and her levels are stable

thanks shanny for the answer, found it most helpful as my throid level is border-line as well.
I put on a vast amount of weight with it . I was lethargic, had thinning hair and crumbling fingernails.I could not be bothered with anything. As soon as I was diagnosed and was on the correct dosage I followed a diet and the weight dropped off.I had great support from my GP practice nurse and am back to my normal self now.
To be frank alternative therapy is all very well but it can be hit and miss.Thyroxine is replacing the hormone which my body is not producing.
I agree shaneystar, after nearly 20 years on eltroxin i find it no problem at all.
it took me a while for the weight to come off because i went for so long without diagnois they kept muddling my smytoms with stress related greif as my brother had just died, when i convinced them somthing was wrong. they concluded it was my body going it shock because of his death. and then they tested me and started medicaiton i now have diabetes 2 with which iam trying to get the right medication for, when all said and done i,am thankful i jsut need pills to make me feel better, and one last thing through all this i found the best medicine around is laughter. good luck.
...I am on 150mgs daily of thyroxin , and to tell you the truth I feel just as bad now as I did when I was first diagnosed 12 years ago, I felt so depressed and lethargic a couple of months ago I stopped taking it, as I felt each year I'm given a higher dose and I just dont seem to be getting anywhere with it, and got b0llocked from my doctor, I started taking it again and felt fantastic for 3-4 weeks and now I am back to feeling terrible again.... I am off to see the doc friday maybe I should ask if I can try Eltroxin, sounds better, I did try kelp years back when first diagnosed but found it didnt make much difference ....last week I have developed large patches of flaking skin on my face, anybody else have this?...
Oh ermintrude that's awful ..I do hope they can sort you out .
Touch wood I have been Ok but regarding the skin .. my skin became terribly dry, itchy and flaky . I was going through body lotion and face cream at a rate of knots. But it's all cleared up now .
I do hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Ermintrude 35 sorry you are not feeling any better, may be you should ask for eltroxin sounds like people are having good results, i was on medication when i was first diagnosed with an over active thyroid level and for years the doctors could not get the correct dosage, after seven years i had radio active treatment which knocked out some of my throid functions, but was warned this treatment would probably leave me with an underactive thyroid, a year later my levels have been dropping and i am now border-line, and want to know as much as possible about this complaint, so i thank any one who as taken the time to reply to me. ms.skippy
