Just don't turn up and if asked why after, say "something came up" - if they pry just say it's personal.
Or if asked, say you went home after work and was so tired you thought you'd grab a quick nap and fell asleep all evening. By the time you woke up it was too late to go.
tell him you cant make it your not under any obligation to give a reason, its out of work hours, hell i don't even go to staff meetings at work I'm famed for my non attending to the extent that they burst into a round of applause when i did attend one :)
I would just not go and if asked why say you went down with a sickness bug that day.

Send a good luck card for the wedding and say you won't be able to go to the after wedding party and you wish them all the best in the marriage etc etc blah blah blah...

Unless of course you want to progress in the company, then get yourself a date and get going and make sure you don't get drunk, also if you're single you might meet some nice other single people.
