Following on from RainbowBrites question about bra size, I have never been fitted for a bra but think I probably should but have never had the courage to do this because I don't know what actually happens. I know about the measuring under the bust and across the bust but do they do it whilst you have no top on? or do you have to wear a camisole or bra? (which then defeats the object I guess)
I know this all probably sounds really silly and this is a serious question but I just don't know what happens and it's stopping me from going.

Thanx for any advice xx

I'm sure the people who are trained in this skill know what they are doing and are fully aware that it could potentially be embarrassing for some people. I'm sure they do it in such a way that you're relaxed and at ease. Just take a deep breath and put yourself in their hands (literally!). On second thoughts, about that deep breath, I suppose that could affect the measurements...
They do it over your underwear, but they are totally unrealiable! Every shop will measure you a different size, you are best just trying them on and seeing what fits best and gives best support

It's not embarrassing at all, they measure you over whatever bra you are wearing, then find you some to try on and make sure that the one they've chosen is the right size!

The best place to go to is M&S, in my store, they have special changing rooms just for this and the ladies who work there are experts, in my opinion.

Last time I went, I asked to be measured I was informed by the lady that they no longer measure you as the bra sizes vary so much, so they guess your size and take it from there.

I have to say she was dead on with my size, so she went and got several bras for me to try, she left the room for me to change and came back in when I was ready to advise me on the best fit/style for me.

I would definately recommend them.

And try not to be shy, just remember that it's what they do all day every day, so they see all shapes and sizes.

hope that helps.

I had probelms for years will bad fitting bras, finally saved up enough money and went to rigby and peller in london, best thing i ever did. i now have bras that fit, better posture and less back ache.

Thank you everyone so much for your replys!

I think I shall take the plunge ;o) and go and get fitted.

Thanx again xx

Try John Lewis, even though the lady will measure you with no bra on, it's a bit like going to the doctor -- think to yourself "She's doing this all day long" - and you can rest assured she is not laughing at you, she's probably thinking about what she is going to cook for dinner.
It might help if you told us your actual size.
