Was it delivered by a postman or woman. Its happened to me and not been a scam . Someone sent me some important stuff and didn't pay the correct postage. I paid by pay pal via the post office scheme and it was delivered two days later. How were the asking you to pay. I might be wrong, but aren't scams usually by phone or email. Ot through putting cards through doors.
ask your postman next time you seem him.
Good idea Bobbin. The cards they leave give a reference number and a reason for payment.
you ring-ding
and they can skim your bank details

there was no indication of what the object was from any company either

That link only highlights text and email scams. If the postman delivered it, is it really a scam?
What 'phone number or website address does it give to pay the fee or query the charge?
My friend received a similar card, and it turned out to be a card, an oversized card, where the correct amount of postage hadn't been paid (the sender just guessed, wrongly!)
I'm fully aware of scams and what you have shown is a scam awareness leaflet and also adverts for buying stamps.

The scam information refers to texts and emails. I am unsure what Scam you are tslking about.

This message tells you there's a £2.99 shipping fee to collect your package. Clicking on the link takes you to a fake site.

Puzzled!
used to get cards from from royal mail saying so so item needs ex amount, turned out local takeaways were doing it ie sending out menu's where you had to pay to get them off post office, i ignored them.

Thanks fender someone knows what I'm on about .))
I doubt that it's a scam. £2.50 is the standard charge that's levied when the sender has paid insufficient postage.

So if, for example, someone has sent you some documents in an envelope that's more than 5mm thick and only paid the 'letter' rate (rather than that for a 'large letter'), you'll have to pay the fee before the item can be delivered to you.

Royal Mail's system needs to be able to link any payment for insufficient postage to the actual item. So, if you try to make a payment for an item that doesn't actually exist, your payment won't be accepted.

With that in mind, go here
https://www.royalmail.com/receiving-mail/pay-a-fee/pay#/card-details
and try entering the relevant details. If the system doesn't recognise what you've entered, it's a scam. However if the information that you've provided is accepted, you'll know that there really is an item awaiting delivery to you once you've paid the fee.

good answer from Buenchico. I doubt very much it was a scam.... but better safe than sorry. For this scam to be worthwhile theyd have to send out lots in a small area and I think Royal Mail would spot the scam. Scams via a 100000 texts or emeals are much more worthwhile to scammers
Usually its a red card that our Posty leaves.

There was a scam using a very similar card - think i just missed the Royal Mail logo off it.

Check with the Posty, or contact the Sorting Office and ask them.
