I don't drink because I was very ill and I couldn't drink alcohol with my medication. I haven't bothered taking up the habit again.
The bottle of port ain't going to drink itself.
(Nor are the rest for that matter.)
I have loads of alcohol in the house as well. We've had to hide it!!
I did dry December because I went a bit doolally and felt I should cut it out. I relapsed over Christmas and NYE. I’ll try to join you for the rest of January, Khandro
I avoided drinking alcohol for over 5 weeks in the build up to Christmas and I must say I felt a lot better for it, I was never a big drinker anyway, I've had a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses of Baileys over the New Year holiday, it was also my 73rd birthday on the 1st January, I live alone and was also in quarantine for 10 days, I tested negative but I had been in contact with someone who was positive.
Its quite tough trying to fill the time of day and the dark evenings, I have been exercising everyday, either a 40 minute walk, walking quite briskly, or by doing push ups etc indoors.
I will join you in keeping off the alcohol for the next few weeks, it'll be a pleasure, I found that by doing it daily helps, I used to go to bed and congratulate myself on not drinking for that day, it really did help.
Good luck to anyone else who is going to try it.
Khandro I will join you. It will be easy for me as I don't drink anyway, but you don't seem to have many takers up to now, so you can depend on me to support you and be proud of you.
Hopefully you will resist the temptation to be quite as caustic as Khandro in reply though Barsel.
^ It's the withdrawal symptoms :)

Cloverjo; //I’ll try to join you for the rest of January, Khandro//

Good, there's one who sounds like a person who drinks more than some posters who sound positively tee-total.

Good sport Cloverjo, we'll show 'em!
What is wrong with not drinking?
How can anyone do 'dry January' if they don't drink in the first place? It would be like a Catholic Priest giving up women for Lent .
I'll join you Khandro. Not a drop of alcohol through the whole of January. Not had any so far and will do my best to continue that way. Okay?

'Dry January'
What a strange idea.
It takes all sorts Balders.
Khandro is too busy ridiculing those who do not, for whatever reason, drink as much as he, and who do not feel the need to join him. What an odd reaction.
pasta, if it keeps him happy.....
I wonder...
Pity this was started by Khandro. We could have had a month of fun and banter had it been a poster who wasn’t rude.
Dry Jan, or any month, is not strange. It's meant to help break the habit of daily drinking.
Once my last wine from the winebox is gone I intend to give up completely. Notice I say intend....... The road to hell etc
