I was diagnosed with incurable (prostate) cancer last February but I still seem to be here and generally driving people up the wall. I've every intention of staying around for quite a bit longer too!

The statistics are in your favour, I think, Smowball

so we're likely to continue to have the pleasure of your company for many years to come ;-)

Enjoy your drink!
*** Smow, what terrible news. Sorry I have nothing helpful to add just that I stay up stupid late if you want to rant.

Thanku so much xx
yes, my OH is currently onto a third episode of cancer over 20 years: two down and this one is going well, touch wood, so as Buenchico says the stats are in your favour.
A great shock for you Smow.
So much can be done today, so many survivors. Stay strong, you will have a lot of support. X
Sorry smowball

Can I just ask Chris a question .

Incurable prostate cancer .
Can't they remove the prostate ?
were you trying to lose the weight?
// Can't they remove the prostate ?//
yes of course they can
it depends whether it works or not
AND
women dont have prostates and the treatments are completely different with different results and still different long term results

just relax with veeno tonite snow
sorry to hear of your news Smow and whatever it is (breast cancer) hopefully it will be cured one way or the other.

we're all here for you at all times - night and day!xxx
(With apologies to Smowball for deviating from the main thread here):

If prostate cancer is caught early enough, Bazile, (i.e. when it's not spread beyond the prostate itself) it can either be treated by removing the prostate gland (which is performed by a robot and involves just a single night in hospital) or by several months of chemotherapy. The former is clearly simpler but it does involve a loss of sexual function; the latter generally retain sexual function but means enduring the side effects of the treatment. Both are 100% effective in producing a cure.

However if the cancer has spread beyond the prostate when it's first diagnosed, the options are more limited. My cancer was found to have reached my bones and lymph nodes, so removal of the prostate wouldn't effect a cure. Instead, I've been on hormone therapy since just after I was given the diagnosis (and I'll remain on it for the rest of my life), I've got through seven months of chemotherapy and I've just started on 37 sessions of radiotherapy. The aim is to suppress the cancer as much as possible but it can't be totally cured.

We’re all here for you Smow. I had prostate cancer diagnosed 2 years ago. My wife breast cancer twice. We are both still here and enjoying life. Treatments are excellent now.
Sending you my prayers and best wishes Smow.
And of course you are an important member of the crew of the Good Ship Early Bird, with Captain Boaty, First Officer Emmie, ships cook McMinty, and the other laggards swinging in their hammocks.

Together we sail both calm and stormy waters,
Together we laugh and fear,
But together we always remember,
Each other that we hold dear.

OMG Smow :-(

My aunt had it when she was just a bit older than us. She was successfully treated xx
