Boy #1 has gone out for a meal this evening so I thought I’d look at the menu. On the lunch menu is ‘filled bread’? They’re sandwiches!

Ah but is it toasted filled bread though, sherr ;-)
Could it be that hollowed out bread. Jamie Oliver does something like that.

I’ve looked at the photos on FB, they’re cracking looking sandwiches but they are just sandwiches (with lots of sides).
A prime candidate for Private Eye's Pseuds Corner .
Lol. How much are they?

£7 (buffalo mozzarella, olive tapenade & basil) - £10 (rump steak, blue cheese & onion marmalade). The place looks quite nice and it’s on the river so I think the price is about right.
If you have to ask you can't afford them.
£10 (rump steak, blue cheese & onion marmalade).

That sounds nice ( swap the onion marmalade for onion rings though ).
Lol Doug....
I'd like the buffalo mozzarella, tapenade and basil please. Sounds yum.
Sorry can't stand all that pretentious stuff - give me a good old ham sarnie anyday without all the *** they stick in these days. Can't believe how hard it is to find a plain ham sandwich anywhere - Sainsburys do one though and its on white bread not that cardboard stuff.
It's not pretentious. It's nice.
I'll have the rump steak and onion marmalade please - hope the bread is good too.

A ham sarnie is what I have at home, I don't go out to dine on one.
I agree with lankeela. Trying to find a simple sandwich on white bread without the ubiquitous mayonnaise (aka the Devil's vomit) is nigh on impossible.
Our local bakery asks what you wish to leave off, eateries will do likewise.
Not if you have a freshly made one in a restaurant!
sure, just ask for what you want

I wouldn't go to a restaurant just for a sandwich. I'm thinking more of the ready-made outlets where the choice is take it or leave it.
Obviously.
You can get 'pretentious' sandwiches in cafes nowadays.
