My son rang me sobbing his eyes out the other day with toothache, and he cries at NOTHING. He finally managed to get into an emergency dentist who said he needed 2 wisdom teeth and a regular snapped back tooth out but they couldn’t do it that day, and sent him away with painkillers and antibiotics and said to wait.
He’s woke up today climbing the walls in pain. I’ve managed to get him in again and they’ve taken the snapped tooth out but said they couldn’t take the root out as it needed surgery(which I don’t understand).
He’s rang me again now saying he’s in more pain than ever, he’s bleeding and can not cope anymore. The dentist won’t see him again and I feel absolutely helpless. He’s rang 111 and they won’t do anything either.
Someone please suggest something? I’ve never heard him so distressed before :( : (

Take him to hospital...
Smow, dentists can't give anaesthetics at their surgeries. If an anaesthetic is required it has to be done in hospital.

He lives 3 hours away. If I tell him to go to his hospital will they do anything??
Dentists often won't act if there's an infection present (which your mention of antibiotics suggests there maybe) for fear of the infection spreading into the patient's bloodstream and leading to sepsis (which can be fatal). So there might be a very good reason why no action is currently possible.

However, if your bank balance (or credit card) can take the hit, it might be worth phoning private dentists in your son's area and asking if they can offer immediate treatment and whether they'll let you pay by providing your card details over the phone. (I'm assuming that you don't live close to your son). You can search for dentists in his area on Yell: https://www.yell.com/

It could also be worth asking your son what type of painkillers he's been given and then asking a pharmacist whether anything stronger (and/or which can be taken in conjunction with what he's already got) is available.
If you take him to A & E I think that they will do something. If you are not sure give them a ring and ask if they can do anything.
Chris, as the dentist said surgery was required I think it means he will have to be treated in hospital. My neighbour had his wisdom teeth out and it had to be done under a general anaesthetic.
Get him to A&E. No question.

God I feel helpless!
Depending on the antiobiotics he's been given, they should soon kick in. As the inflammation subsides, so will the pain.
Question Author
He’s been on antibiotics for 4 days
Smow, stop dithering, get him to A & E.
