Does anyone ever feel this way? Bed, work, eat, sleep every working day. Then you see people at the weekend doing boring stuff like mowing their lawns, washing the car, DIY, how exciting. Then its back to the weekly drudgery again and they seem quite happy to spend the rest of their lives living like this with perhaps a couple of holidays if they are lucky to break the monotony. My wife and I discussed this, we both still have to work as we are a few years from retirement but we both feel the same way. You only live once, is that all there is?

Cheer up, dave...

Yep, Retirement is good though, we can recommend that ;o)
No...I don't feel this way.

Do you have children?
Someone once told me to try to do something different each day. Not always easy but can be something as simple as phoning a friend you haven't spoken to for some time. Did it work for me? Nah, still bored witless most days!!
No- it sounds like you need new jobs or hobbies or something. It's up to you.
We have both worked all our lifes ..now because of having to sell our house because of compulsory purchase order we are able to retire me at 60 ..Mrs v at 54 ...Mrs v is going to look for a part time job early next year ..me I'm going to enjoy retirement as much as I can ...the last 30 years getting up at stupid hours for work has finished ...got a lot to look forward too when we want to do it in our own time.
Do different things, buy a campervan and explore the world,, do things that interest you, become obsessed with a hobby. Dave (Redman) and i tried to make our life as full of memories as we could. Don't save it until you are older, you might run out of time
My word, I bet you're fun at parties.
Get a television or a dog !!!!!

Prefer a Dog (or two) myself ;o)

Yes we do like to go out and have fun but it's the parts in between that are tedious. Yes we have children and grandchildren bit its not enough. Yes rowanwitch we have actually thought about a campervan and we are looking into it.
What have you actually tried to alleviate this mundaneness?
Goodness no, I have many years to go yet and love my life and every new day is a complete blessing.
OK, every day stuff can be a bit mundane. But try and take pleasure in the little things. I'm cleaning my oven at the moment which about as **** a job as it gets. But later I'll sit in the garden and watch the birds or take a walk down the lane and watch the foxes.

Also be very grateful - a couple of people of whom I have been very fond have died suddenly over recent months. If you both have your health you are the authors of your own boredom, I'm afraid. Boredom is a surprisingly easy thing to alleviate and quite a small complaint in the big scheme of things.
Life is what you make it.
The everyday stuff can be mundane but then I think what if I wasn’t physically able to empty the dishwasher etc, that would be much worse. Suggest you find some interests before you retire - join a walking group, start doing pub quizzes, take dancing lessons, aim to visit every Wetherspoons in the country ...... I could go on. But if you don’t, then retirement will also be unfulfilling. Come up with a bucket list and let us know what you decide.
Make those things you describe as mundane a bit more fun , during the warmer months swap one meal a week for a picnic or on a a warm balmy night sleep under the stars.

Even small changes add up.
BEAC's got it: if you want life to be different, make it so. Go bungee jumping, take up stamp collecting, learn karate, visit gorillas in the Ugandan jungle... what would you like to do?
With respect, please do not wish your lives away looking forward to retirement. Too many people I know have keeled over within a short time of retiring.
I have retired and am loving life. I like that I can take off at a moment's notice and travel, see the world. It does make you feel good. Health is better too.
