I was woken up this morning with severe stomach cramps. They lasted about 5 minutes and then eased off. I still have a slight ache but nothing I can't cope with. I have Ulcerative Colitis and wonder if it has something to do with that but the ache is further up above my tummy button although the cramps were further down.

AB spares editor, does that apply to Andy-Hughes? his first answer was judgemental and unhelpful.
i give up!!
Vulcan - his answer has gone.
I'm fairly sure Kathyan didn't want her serious question derailed by squabbling so can we leave it? It must be so annoying to see that your question has 20 answers and 15 of them are not useful.
Would be a good idea to not allow fao questions?

Just to let everyone know that the pan came back and I rang 999. The first responder came, followed by an ambulance. They did several tests, all normal. They gave me paracetamol and two seconds after, the pain went! Not due to the paracetamol (obviously!) but it went and hasn't returned. They say it could have been trapped wind (which is really painful, apparently) and now it has gone. I'm sorry the thread has gone the way it has, it wasn't meant to start an argument. I am feeling much better now.
Trapped wind can be incredibly painful and with your condition you were right to be cautious.
Thanks for the feedback.
What condition ?
Ulcerative colitis ^^^^^^^
It's in the OP Anne.
Note to self........ Must try harder !
I can honestly say that trapped wind is one of the most painful things I've experienced. I had it following an ectopic pregnancy and my recent C-section and on each occasion I've been on all-fours crying.

Peppermint is beneficial.
I echo what NoM says....it's really really painful.
Actually, I'm just thinking....

Sqad, is there a link between ulcerative colitis and ankylosing spondylitis? I know a handful of people who, after suffering many years of the former, went on to develop the latter?

It might be worth Kath bearing that in mind and taking any and all precautionary measures to keep her UC under control...
NoM, yes, there is an association, but i think that Kathyan may well have her UC under control and i would guess that she is on rectal steroids..........just guessing.
Thanks for the answer, Sqad. I've always been of the opinion that the two might be linked in some way, simply due to the number of people I've seen with both afflictions.
Great, a retired doctor who posts 'no big deal' also posts 'just guessing'

Brilliant.
poor you kathyan.. isnt the health service wonderful. Before christmas i called 999 when i had had abdo pain that was severe and woulnt go away. i got better about 30 seconds after they arrived #awkward
