Does it help alleviating arthritis, or is it an urban myth?

Don't know but the mention of it takes me back years when I was given a spoonful of cod liver oil and malt before setting off for school.
Glucosamine is a better bet.
Don't know either but had to take it in capsule form as a child, dared to bite into one once OMG it's vile.
According to this, fish oil rather than fish liver oil is beneficial.

I was given a spoonful of the vile stuff followed by a spoonful of rosehip syrup to sweeten the effect - yuk!
I still take one of these capsules every day.
Every day I should add

And I also had to wear a liberty bodice :-(
The cod liver oil and malt was't too vile-tasting. The taste of the oil was masked by the malt.
I had a liberty bodice till I was 5.
My ex is a chippy and he swears by Glucosamine.

Cod liver oil isn't going to do you any harm so it's worth a try.
I always thought it was given to me to ward off colds.
My mum used to give it to the cats for healthy looking fur!
It was given by my Mum to us boys in the 50's. Dad was able, through his Union, to buy Halibut Liver Oil capsules very cheaply. At the age of 64, I still take them, plus some high dosage Vitamin C, and I only have maybe one cold a year now.
We were given the capsules as children, I always bit mine and called it 'my little drink'! On a Norwegian cruise earlier this year on the way back down there was a crossing the Arctic Circle ceremony where we were given a spoonful of cod liver oil and got to keep the spoon. OH had missed the start and thought it was a Norwegian liqueur, his face was so funny, it was all my fault, naturally, for not warning him.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll give glusomine a try.
Do you mean Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid arthritis?
Cod Liver Oil for either is an urban myth, BUT Glucosamine is a better bet for Osteoarthritis, but in my opinion is a waste of time.
Question Author
Osteoarthritis, sqad. They only cost a tenner, so I'll give it a try.
OK ;-)
I remember the ads where the actors said that the oil 'lubricated their joints'. I'm not a doctor, but I don't see how how oil in a capsule can come out of your stomach and down to your knee and hip joints to lubricate them.

OH used to take Glucosamine, but now takes cod liver oil. I don't think either of them have helped him.

Bought some Glucosamine and it only costs a fiver, so it's worth a try.
