"At one time (don't know if they still do) doctors used to prescribe little enemas that you can use yourself."

They were known in the profession as "do it yourself s.hit kit" with the motif:

Are you constipated?
Are you depressed?
Has the bottom fallen out of your world?
Then use DIYSK and let the world fall out of your bottom.
Gp gave my friend suppositories, they said they worked , but the paper wrapping them was a bit painful ,!!!!!!!
The only time I used the glycerine ones, I had cold sweats and was weak as a kitten for two days, lost about a stone in weight too I think.
In France doctors tend to prescribe suppositories for all kinds of ailments in place of tablets.
Best blow out is with a tin of baked beans.
Jack , are you home from hospital ? Excuse me kloof..
milk of magnesia and glycerine suppositories, not sure if you can still get the milk of magnesia anymore, i did not follow the directions and took two tablespoons or three last thing at night, next day early morning had that feeling...you know, whoosh on the bog...ahah

Had an interesting experience with Milk of Mag when I was 4.
Well, mother left it lying around......
I remember Milk of Magnesia. I also remember Nurse Dinneford's gripe water. At the age of 4 I got splendidly rat-arsed by drinking a whole bottle meant for my baby brother.
I still buy Gripe Water (Woodwards) helps with IBS.
