Depends on what is causing it to freeze in the first place

This happened to me last weekend,

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Technology/Question1479993.html

Now I'm getting used to it I quite like it, didn't want it but I'm keeping it, it was a very smooth changeover (I slept right through it) and so far no problems.
Don't know what problem is with your PC so can't say if it would be as simple for you or not, but as a freebie it's looking good for me atm.
You need to sort out your freezing problem first - check your ram - try upgrading your drivers - in real terms 4gb is bare minimum for Win 10 - backup ALL your stuff - then do a custom install - if you need a full walkthrough just ask.
What makes you think it will stop freezing if you upgrade to Windows 10 ?
While the people who know these things are around can I ask a quick question please. I choose to upgrade to windows 10 and all went well but being given different advice as to whether I now need a anti virus programme or is the one built in to windows 10 sufficient. Thanks in advance..
I`d never rely on just MS for antivirus - I prefer Norton security - but buy a good name one.

I use McAfee and it's carried on as prior to the upgrade, no problems, was the first thing I checked.
Thanks. Next question. If I try to load say norton will the windows anti virus block it.
No the Norton will turn off the MS - for your info you can get a multi licence version that will cover PCs tablets and phones - some very good clean up stuff to.
The advice is very confusing as to whether to upgrade to W10 or stay on W7 , for example .

I read somewhere ( probably on here ),to stay with W7 , if that's what you currently have .

However , does it also depends on how old your computer is , as to whether or not you experience problems with W10 ?
£24 for 5 devices
Thanks for help, cheers..
My computer died just before Christmas - it was always freezing and it had Windows 7. New laptop has Windows 10 installed - and it is always freezing (just done it whilst writing this and I gave up on it this morning)!

I also find myself severely limited with Windows 10 - can't do things I used to do easily and I know very well that I'm not the only one from talking in shops etc.. Many people want to get Windows 7 installed and I'm starting to look at that option.

So, it'll carry on freezing I think.
jourdain, I'd love to know what you can't do easily on W10 that you could do W7.
My very techie son has advised me not to bother with 10.

Check that you fit these parameters on your pc and run any upgrades that are available to your current operating system first. Then back up and run the w10 upgrade. You will have 30 days to revert back to w7.
w10 is not causing 'freezing' or lag. It will be something else. The problem you had whilst running w7 is still there jourdaine.
I have had w10 since the day after release. I have used xp, w7, w8, and w8.1.
W10 is by far the best. I know that hc had it pre release and has seen it develop. As long as you allow or set your pc to run the upgrades you will have no problems.
atalanat, my very techie son was saying the same to me. He is still running w7. Oh it is so sweet when he is here and on my pc and I am having to show him, after years of him being the 'go to' for advice he now picking my brains.
hc Just to start with, I can't find an address book - click onto mail and there is nothing whatever, I've tried, OH has tried - zilch!. I had to buy a little book from a local shop and am collecting email addresses in the old-fashioned way. grrrrr :(
