When I went to bed last night I left laptop in sleep mode, chucked dust cover over it and away I went.
Got up this morning and am now the proud owner of a laptop running Windows 10.
Didn't ask for it, didn't particularly want it, but there it is up and running.
Seems ok so far but still think it was a bit of a liberty.

Yes, that's true, for weeks now I've been getting pop-ups telling me it's ready to install and giving me the choice, I've just closed 'em down and got on with things. Never really considered it would go ahead and do it anyway without me ok'ing it.
I think this is VERY sneaky of Microsoft.

The constant nagging about Windows 10 is bad enough, but to install it when you don't even get a chance to say no is despicable.

For those that don't want to upgrade to W10 install the GWX Control Panel

I have been getting the pop-ups for ages, saying ready to install 10 etc.

Yesterday when I had not been on it for an hour or so, had a notice saying Win 10 is now installing, please don't turn off.

Couldn't cancel manually, so turned off laptop, and then switched off Win 10 notices altogether.
try it, Baldric, you may quite like it - not that much different to 7 - more speed for your pc as it's better constructed.....
Mrs sqad just brought her Laptop to me and when she switches on, over the desktop is a bloody great square from Windows saying:

Schedule your Upgrade.

She can't get rid of it and can't get into her desktop icons.
Lol Baldric. Sorry I had to laugh. I am sure you will love it. Defender is excellent and I run the Edge browser now. Plenty on here to help you find your way around. hc is well up to speed with it. If I may, could I just recommend that you make sure to run the updates.
Note you have 30 days to go back to your previous version of Windows if you wish to.

Once those 30 days are up then you have no chance to go back to the previous version of Windows.

I've had a good look 'round it, tried various things and so far so good.
Thinking I will stay with it atm.
Just the way it happened.
Microsoft recently changed the priority of the Windows 10 update from optional to recommended a number of people have been caught out by this I had one the other day and to my surprise the roll back worked so perfectly the computer booted with all the programs running that were running when it updated

Exactly what happened ^^ here.
Always best to do it yourself - there is quite a bit of tailoring best done during a custom install and other drivers will need updating as MS only uses ones they approve. You may have issues with older programs to get them to work.

Yes, I agree with that, but as I didn't have that option I shall just have to play it by ear and deal with any glitches as and when.
Cannot understand why anyone complains about getting W 10 for free, it costs £ 85 quid to buy from Amazon.
There are a number of programs that Windows 10 zaps and are un-installable under it, some also have problems with the amount of data that Microsoft harvest and are suspicious of what also lurks beneath
Also bear in mind If you are not the Paying customer you are the product
Question Author

///Cannot understand///
