Yes they must have checked his politics and bank balances first

Oh the desperation of the Left to cast a slur upon the Tory Toffs (God Bless 'em all Sir!)
At first glance it does seem heartless...however, the letters are computer generated by a department which will have no first-hand knowledge of his circumstances.

Attending the meeting will demonstrate just how disabled he is and, hopefully, he'll never have to attend such an assessment panel again.
Don't worry someone will be along soon to say he can wear a headset and talk on a phone all day for a job.
Exactly Canary..........you haven't got it though.......have you?
All it needs is a phone call to sort these things out. But i suppose only rich Tory toffs can afford to make phone calls,

JTH, from the link

///The DWP admitted that there a “mistake” and there was now no need for Edward to undergo a face-to-face assessment.///
And of course the D.W.P. is staffed entirely....by Tory Toffs.
Baldric - Quite.
So a bit of a non-story all round, really.
Think DWP will do home visits - typical Daily Express
The trouble with the left they believe we can go on paying out many to anyone and everyone till we are as broke as Greece.

As a country we are 1.8 TRILLION pounds in debt.

I saw on the news this morning that 2 million people had come in from the EU and got jobs, and yet we have 1.6 MILLION on the dole and we are paying them dole money, while immigrants come in to do the job they don't want to do.

As a country we cant keep on doing that.

Maybe canary42 could explain what he would do if he found he was say £50,000 in debt. Would he cancel the family holiday, cancel Sky TV, cancel his smartphone contract, or would he carry on paying for them, going more and more in to debt.

Just like any household a country has to balance the books, and we cant keep paying out money to anyone and everyone.

p.s. My father died a few years ago and he voted Tory all his life. He was born in a poorish area in London, left school at 14, but worked hard, went to evening school, got qualifications, and worked all his life in the TV business.

When died he lived in a house worth £750,000 and had another few hundred thousand pounds in the bank and in shares. His estate was worth about 1 million.

Was he a Tory toff ?

No he just worked hard and did not spend all his time sitting on his *** moaning about things like many Labour supporter do.
Canary, would you please define what you mean by 'Toff'?
Just to add a little spice, there is no austerity in the UK.

Since 2010 (when the “Tory Toffs” entered power in their ill-fated Coalition with the LibDems) public spending (and borrowing) has risen faster than inflation. Spending on health, welfare, education and foreign aid (sorry, “development”) have all risen well above the rate of inflation. I was going to provide a few figure to accompany my claims as I usually do but really cannot be bothered as I have done so many times in the past. Doubters can look them up for themselves if they wish.

All that has happened to create the myth of us living in austere times is that, instead of doling out money to anybody who says they don’t have any, enquiries have begun to be made of those claimants to establish precisely why they are skint. This is not unreasonable. The benefits system has suffered enormous abuse and it is still is taking place. The result should be that there will be more cash available for those in genuine need (such as the person mentioned in the non-story quoted here) and less for those who have adopted fecklessness as their chosen lifestyle.
