Has anyone had hypnosis for insomnia? If you have, did it really help to give you peaceful, unbroken nights sleep after it? Thanks.

smudge..i havnt tried hypnosis..but have you tried valerian tablets from the health shop..they are great for sending you to sleep..a lot of people that go to the healers at the spiritualist church say they sleep like a log after healing as that relaxes them..and thats free!!its worth considering..

Thanks for that mullien - I have tried valerian tablets in the past, but I've got such an active mind at times - it seems to really fight sleep! I've also tried the lavendar drops that my husband bought me, which helped when I remembered to use them!

My doctor gave me some sleeping tablets a week ago & even after two of those, I still woke in the early hours & couldn't get back to sleep until it was time to get up.

I've never thought of going to a faith healer before, but anything's worth a try - I shall look into that. Thank you again.

I suffered from insomnia very badly, a few years ago.  My gp leant me a classical music tape!  I played it very very quietly at night, on a loop and found that within a few nights it worked, it had to be piano music tho - violins made me worse for some reason!  If your hubby finds the noise disturbing try wearing earphones.  It really did the trick for me!
Hi Smudge. I found Paul McKennas 'deep relaxation' tape to be pretty effective, especially if you can't sleep because of a busy mind. I used to wake up in the morning with the walkman and headphones lying beside me on the bed. Now I don't need the tape as I have learned from it how to relax and shut out distracting thoughts. On rare occasions it does'nt work, then I just give in and read a book.

Thank you nfn - It's awful being a sufferer isn't it? I listen to my numerous story tapes quietly every night, without fail - I just wouldn't get to sleep at all without them. I seem to doze off ok, but then wake up in the early hours & that's when I can't get back to sleep! We have an enormous collection of classical music CD's & I love piano & violin too, except when I listen to the latter, it makes me feel a bit sad.

Thank you too auldyin -  I do have a few relax tapes including: Overcome Insomnia/Just lie back & relax by Albert Smith - New Woman/Stress Buster & Dr Hilary Jones' Classic Relaxation Programme. I was looking at Paul McKenna relaxation programmes on the net only the other day, but wondered if they're much better than the ones I've already got - so perhaps I will give his tape/CD a try too.

Thank you to one & all - every little helps. -x-

Have you tried reflexology?

I have ticklish feet and thought it would be a nightmare, but it was fine.  Best sleep I've had in ages.

Thank you Lily - that's another good idea I hadn't thought of - I will look into that too.
smudge. Are you taking any medication such as an SSRI? These actually cause insomnia. I use a meditation cd during the day and a sleep tape at night

Dear Smudge

I am a hypnotherapist and do treat clients with Insomnia but have found that hypnosis is sometimes not necessary. I teach them relaxation methods to do before bed and I also supply them with a Binaural Beats CD. If listened to 30 min before bed with headphones they tend to fall asleep within 20mins and it is also equal to 2-3hrs extra sleep as it lowers the frequency your brain functions at. You can also try Melatonin which is a herbal sleep regulator that I use myself...Hope this helps!

FINA - Thank you for your reply. As I mentioned earlier, my GP prescribed Temazapam 10mg sleeping tablets. On the first night I took one & fell asleep okay, but woke up in the early hours & couldn't get back to sleep. This also happened when I took two, so I didn't take any more!

SublimeSelf - Thank you for your reply too & the suggestion of B/B CD. I shall look into adding one of those to my collection of several relaxation tapes & CD's.
