..hi, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or knowledge about self help books, preferably with a relaxation / hypnosis CD that will help with insomnia...something like the Paul McKenna books that come with a CD would be great. Or advice on self hypnosis?? Thankyou very much xx

Have you got some sort of instruction manual from work? Just read that. You'll nod off in no time.
yes, I have a whole library of the damn things. Mix of relaxation/selfhypnosis and meditation..

hows your dl limit? I can put a few on putfile.com as mp3 if you want. Ill check back responses later and If its a yes ill put up a link for you.
My doctor told me that the best cure for insomnia was a good night's sleep...
I know Paul McKenna does do relaxation cd's but I think you can probably get cheaper ones. Play.com do mediation cd'd or even better if you have an ipod you can download that kind of thing and listen to it in bed.

have a look on this site for 'Sleeping Beauty Pillow Mist'. Spray on you pillow when you go to bed. Me and the Mrs sleep like logs with this stuff.
I use Lavender Oil on our pillows, but I also have an ear plug in one ear (guess why?) & an in-ear phone in the other as I listen to spoken word story tapes & CD's.

I have an assortment of them, including relaxing ones, but have recently been listening to Alan Bennet's 'Telling Tales' & am currently listening to his first 'Talking Heads' which some parts make me giggle, 'specially 'A Chip in the Sugar'!

This might seem like it defeats the object of getting to sleep, but I often dose off, having to play them again the next night. Good luck!
* should say Alan Bennett with two t's!
* I also 'doze' off not dose off! He, he!

Barbega - thanks for the reply, bit what's a 'dl limit'? I am one of the most untechnical people to walk the earth, i'm afraid, i assume it's something to do with computers?
I don't really have a problem getting to sleep, i awake very early and can't get back off to sleep and I dream all the time, so my sleep is light. Thankyou all for the replies.
Kaz - I am a very light sleeper & the least little thing can wake me up, 'specially birds singing in the early hours of the morning! P'raps you could try ear plugs in case it's that (I cut mine in half -small ears), they certainly help me.

This won't help with your nightmares, but maybe you could talk you your doc about that, as there may be an underlying problem he/she can help you with.

I am a terrible insomniac and often lay awake all night wondering why I can't sleep until it suddenly "dawns" on me. Now I go to bed and don't worry if I don't sleep because laying down I am resting. When all else fails I read - something a bit 'heavy' like Homer's Odyssey. No point in worrying why you can't sleep as the body will sleep when it wants to and for as long as it wants to.
Whenever I go for a swim during the day I can't keep my eyes open that evening
Panic Button - I have to agree with you about swimming!

I always feel brilliant after doing a few lengths ( 30 last time - although I ached for a while the next day)! It's certainly good for body & mind, along with Yoga, which again helps me relax!

Both the above & gentle exercise may also help lessen your nightmares Kaz.
i suffer really bad with insomnia!! i can go days without sleeping and then i have trouble waking up in the morning??

i find that a hot bath/shower before bed is a good one but if all else fails i tap the wife on the back and tell her i cant sleep (i get moaned at but she thinks of england?) other that that as zimzam said, a good book is always handy to have around!!
