Am I alone in considering that 7 years is far too long for a body to go undetected ?

Surely somebody should have realised that something was amiss ?

It's extreme but if you have no family or friends, no employment and you're not well known by your neighbours then I can see how it happens.
If I drop dead (or simply top myself) in my house I can't think of any reason why anyone would notice me missing for a very long time. I wouldn't want it any other way.

However I'm amazed that it took a lender 7 years to notice that the mortgage payments weren't being kept up. My lender was quick enough to try to repossess my house when they didn't get any repayments for a few months (which was unsurprising as I'd paid the mortgage off but they'd lost the record of me doing so!).
No great story. Unfortunately it happens all the time. That is the new wonderful society we live in where nobody really cares for others.
After all Richard 111's body has only just been discovered in a Leicestershire car park and he died about 1485. Now that is a reason to get really miffed.
Pheweee....for the first year.
The inquest heard the 58-year-old was being investigated for "inappropriate conduct towards a child".

If I'm reading it right not what you would call a fast moving investigation was it?
I recall being sent to a flat in Sutherland Rd off the Harrow Rd W.9. with regard to a residents complaint of the smell emanating from a neighbours flat in the block. On entering the bedroom of the flat the quilt cover was undulating on the bed and there were hundreds of bluebottles on the inside of the window blocking any light. When the quilt was pulled back the amount of maggots would of supplied a fisherman for 5 fishing seasons. The neighbour was only concerned about the smell for 4mnths and not the possibility of the demise of the elderly male resident who had lived there alone. Now that was true neighbourliness wasn't it? Sorry if that factual anecdote has upset any ones feelings but that is what happens in the real world we live in today.
sadly today some of us don't know our neighbours but, there must have been a dreadful odour ?
retrocop, all well and good blaming today's society, but some pensioners don't want people interfering with their lives
what pankysmooch said. I do accept that there are people who are isolated and lonely and don't want to be but there are also many people who choose to live an isolated life and that must be respected too.
Parts of my body have lain undiscovered for seven years.
LOL ^^^^^^
There are many that want to be left alone. They find visitors and invitations out stressful. Shame there isn't a bit more of a balance, sometimes. But they have the right to choose.
and for the next seven no doubt :) x
There are often cases like this - first link is of a man who passed away and it would never have been noticed only his Christmas decorations were still up weeks after Christmas, apparently house was ever so warm, as the winter heating was on still http://www.irishcentral.com/news/wexford-mans-body-found-when-woman-notices-christmas-tree-lights-still-on-143456526-237436701.html

the 10 years ago ireland was shocked by this story, had the lady lived alone it would have been something, but her elderly sisterly lay by her dead body every night and the brother never even noticed the sister was dead

You can report them dead, then shoots xx
It's a strange story for these reasons .....

the mortgage had not been paid

The inquest heard the 58-year-old was being investigated for "inappropriate conduct towards a child".

Not investigating the case too well were they?
I need a resuscitator.
I can do CPR. Can I help, shoots?
Well OK I certainly can accept the fact that old people do not appreciate outside interference and meddling and point taken but waiting 4months before complaining about the smell!! What about the cases that some of us know whereby some old auntie has lain dead for good long time and when the relatives are informed they all swarm out the woodwork and cover the scene like an old worn overcoat. Now that is mercenary and uncaring. Human nature pssh!
well they found Mandy Rice Davies quickly enough innit ?
but then they would, wouldnt they ?

I was bemused by - and she was under investigation for inappropriate contact with children - and then did nothing for seven years

I would hope it couldnt happen where I live in Manchester
