Someone has locked their bicycle to the railings outside my house. It has been there for two days now and no sign of the cyclist. If this bicycle was locked to a park railing the council would be very quick to remove it. Any suggestions of what i should do?

Leave it alone, the owner maybe ill or something happened to prevent him returning, give it a few more days and then report it to the police to see if they are interested.

If the railings are part of your property,
Out with the Bolt-croppers!
Is it in your way or an eye-sore or something? Or is it you think they've been cheeky to do this without asking.(I think they have, but maybe it was a kid)
Is it bothering you?
It's an invasion of privacy. Somewhat cheeky not asking permission. I would give it another day, then out with the bolt croppers. If the owner turns up. charge them for storage.
Simple. Put another lock on and charge to unlock it.
Leave it for another few days, as long as its not doing any harm. Its unlikely anybody would go to the trouble of locking a bike up securely, and then abandon it. If it isn't claimed, then do as Canary has suggested.

Does it look like an expensive bike, or just some old bone shaker ?
Wait until a week has passed then ebay it.
Blimey where I came from it wouldn't have been there an hour after being left!
Maydup - buyer to collect?
The wheels and saddle are the first things to go around here.
I would give it a week and then report it to the Police ( who will not be interested but at least you have covered your @rse) then remove it and sell it on ebay. What make and model is it ? some bikes are worth £100s even secondhand.
perhaps they've forgotten where they left it.
Give it a week, then ask Police to UV scan it, just in case it is 'marked'.
The owner may have a family emergency or similar to deal with so a week seems long enough before making enquiries.
Looks like your saddled with it .Have you're spoke to the council .Give the local paddlers a bell perhaps they can help as your tyred looking at it .
That may start a chain reaction though, weecalf.
Maybe it belongs to Bradley Wiggins?
I know we could have cycle of this sort of thing
.

Funneely enough 1968
I was late for skool and left my sickle against a drive way run up.
The bus collected me and off we set for a 6th form conference.
A kid in the minibus heard rattling....
and then as we came into Frampton (Dorset) the same kid saw a wheel cartwheeling down the road and thought oo that is funny where did that come from ?
The axle hit the road and this gave the impetus to crash and rotate the bus and turn over and over
The battery had not been anchored and so there were twelve kids in a rotating washing machine with a battery spraying everyone with battery acid. Even in that year 1968 some cars failed to slow down as we flagged them down and then had to do an emergency brake stop when they saw the wrecked van carcass around the corner....
No serious injuries - the insurance paid

and I found my sickle in the opposite hedge dumped by the houseowners, later that week.
I dont think they ever knew.
It wasnt your parents by any chance was it porkchop ?

Five days have now gone and the bicycle is still there. It must be the fact that i live in a sort of a respectable area that the bicycle is still there. Maybe if i put out a sign saying "TAKE AWAY FOR FREE" someone may take it away. Mind you, it is not a piece of junk, i would say it is worth around £60/70. Maybe tomorrow it may be gone, as long as my railings are still there i don't mind.
