Im moving out on monday and really want to give my mum and dad a card with some really special (to say thank you for everything) words inside - a poem or something. I know it would be better to write my own one - but it would probably take me a year!!! I've googled 'poems' and 'thank you' but nothing really appropriate comes up.

Any ideas?

Thanks x

to be honest floss if I was your mum I'd sooner have a card from you with your own true words in it, even if it's just 'Thanks so much for everything', than all the works of Shakespeare.

i always try to write my own verse/whatever, but my wife and her mum are sold on the hallmarkesque vibe, frequently bringing each other to tears with the mass-produced eye-wetters.

have you tried knocking together just a couple of rhyming couplets - i tend to find the less esoteric the better ...

If I had a wish
I would be a better writer

Better to tell you
What you mean to me.

Better to explain myself
When I miss your call

Knowing in my heart
It would make my day.

Better to capture
What we share
A private happiness
Between
A child and her parents.

Better to show my life to you
Steeped in your unfailing love.

I have no need for wishes

Because I have you.

etc.
