Whenever I go out in the cold, like for a walk or on my bike, I always get earache.

I'm sat here now with my scarf wrapped around my head, trying to warm them up, but it really hurts.

Is this normal/common?

I have found the best way to stop the earache .....is to get into a drunken stupor. Then it's in one ear out the other.

No - you may have an underlying problem.

I'd start with your GP - get your ears checked for infection.

If nothing there, do the same at your dentist.
maybe an earwig has crawled in your ear and eating its way out?
Yes, we both get it, I think it's pretty common.

Oh, ok. That's not really the answer I was expecting.

My Dad's always saying he gets earache in the cold weather, so I figured it would be fairly common... :-/

It's something I can always remember getting though. When I was a kid and we used to go and watch the annual carnival, I remember standing there in the cold, all wrapped up but suffering with earache.

What would be the connection with teeth?
Ear muffs might help when you're out walking. If its really cold i start with ear ache then it spreads to my jaw. :(

"maybe an earwig has crawled in your ear and eating its way out?"

Don't. Just don't.

:)
yes if you bury your head in some muffs that will probably help!
Yes...that is perfectly normal......it is the effect of extreme cold on the ear drum.
lol used to be my biggest fear
Yep...it always happens to me in the cold especially if there is a wind.

I was just wondering if it's something that means you have an underlying problem, or something you just 'get' when it's cold.
I never have any other problems with my ears, just bad earache in the cold which, as above, does sometimes travel down to the side of my jaw.

Bury my head in a muff?

I'm not that way inclined...

Glad the majority are saying it's common. I didn't think it would be anything to 'worry' about, but it was quite painful when I was just walking home so I did wonder.
It is pretty windy out there, yes. I had my scarf up around my ears and my hoody hood up.

I can't feel anything blocking my ears, although I suppose it is possible.
I do get it every time I go out though. Well, in the cold anyway, I don't get it any other time of the year :-)

Best answer because it made me laugh.

Worst answer because it made me feel sick. lol
Get a wee beanie hat pull down over ears...good when on your bike too..
Question Author
Good idea, but I'm not really a hat person. I'd just look like a bin man with a beanie on.

earmuffs get your head out the gutter!!
Question Author
Lol. You said Muff!!

Ok, muffs, but you were not very clear.
