Was out with a friend for coffee today. Sitting at the next table were two women, one of whom was feeding a very tiny baby. I thought it was the baby's grandmother, but it turned out she is a foster mother and this wee tot was her 45th foster child. Got the baby at 1 day old (now 12 days old) and will likely have him for 2 years until he is adopted. Such a big heart, I was almost in tears. Thank God for women like her.

Absolutely maggiebee. It's a sad sign of the times that yet more and more foster parents are being needed.
Agreed, maggie, makes us all feel lessered (if that's a proper word) :)
Well done to her, people like that do remarkable jobs.
It must take some tremendous strength to finally part with the child...
It's awful sad that so many foster parents are needed. There are two girls up the school (out of six children) who are fostered but if they were to be adopted by the foster parents the whole family would have to move out of the area. This particular family has stopped fostering babies because the girls find it too sad when the babies move on.
on another note, i wish people wouldn't assume the grandparent thing. Me and my husband have been asked on 3 seperate occasions of we are our daughter's grandparents :( :(
Bednobs, I was once asked if my husband was my dad!
*Chortlesplutters* well that's worse! ps maggie i wasn't moaning at you - just the people who said it out loud to us
Lol. I was in the doctors surgery last week and the receptionist said to the woman in front of me "can I take your Dad's name please" to which she replied "that's my hsuabnd!". I didn't know where to look :-D

It takes a very strong person to be a foster carer. It must be absolutely heartbreaking when you have to part with that child.
I know someone that does fostering, and it took almost two years for her to get her first child. They need to make the application process a bit less long winded so it encourages other people to do the same. Very rewarding, but also very challenging.
