Do what ever it takes imo.
It's not about protecting your home. It's protecting yourself and your family while you're in your home.

IMO - whatever it takes.
Agree ^^^^
If someone broke into my home and threatened my family, I would do whatever it took to protect them.
^^^^Ditto.^^^^
Hanging intruders by the testicles seems appropriate.
The judge dealing with the most recent case said it was fine to shoot intruders, as long as you hold a legally licensed weapon.
When I came across burglars in my house in March I shouted for them to leave. Stupidly I didn't tell them to leave what they had in their pockets. There was no way I wanted any violence I just wanted them out of my house. They were taken by surprise and so left. They weren't kids but grown adults but of the gypsy type...
Saying this I still haven't installed an alarm but I do make sure all is locked even when I pop out even to the bakery!

M3rm4n, I suppose you could use fly spray or something similar?

I'm amazed that burglars break into farmhouses where, chances are, the householder has a gun.
....or we should be allowed to chop their legs off!!
Minimum force in the circumstances.
What is overkill? I would keep bashing them until they stopped moving, otherwise what is the point, they just get up hurt you, does one have to check them after every bash???
Vic I think I would use MAXimum force if my mrs comm was under threat....

I have a pepper spray (which I think is illegal) and a baseball bat.............
The problem is that when someone breaks into your house you have no idea what the are capable of, or their intentions.

I do see your point, M3rm4n, but I'm not sure how chatty I would feel in the middle of the night if a stranger had broken into my home. My first reaction would be that he/she wasn't here to read the meter.
IF you live in the UK, the law is quite clear:
1: If an intruder is physically threatening you or yours, you may respond in kind. That doesn't mean that you blast him with your 12 bore if he puts his fists up for a punch up.
2: If an intruder's legging it away, you can't shoot him in the back, as Tony Martin did.
3: If an intruder points a gun at you, or swings a baseball bat at you, then you would be justified in shooting him.
4: So far on here, IF these posters are here in the UK, at least half a dozen of you would get nicked.
5: NO Judge in the UK would utter the words that it was fine to shoot someone as long as your firearm was held legally. That is so much rubbish.
