Sqad - I have had a bad throat, now starting its 4th week. On the right side my tonsil appear to have some ulcers on it, also the gland on my right side of neck is swollen and sore. I feel absolutely awful, aches, headachy, general feeling of lethagy.

Went to see Doc on Friday - she looked down my throat and said I had pharayngitis, but not infection. She said its viral and just to continue with salt water gargle and take one ibpurofen 3 times a day.

Its really pulling me down, and I think its now time to try some antibiotics - I know they don't treat anythin viral, but I know my own body and think the ulcerated right tonsil needs something more.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, ojread2 - I have looked at this site, but wanted Sqad's opinion as he is ENT.
You sure it's not streppococcal pharyngitis.....?

http://en.wikipedia.o...ptococcal_pharyngitis

That does usually mean an antibiotic.

Over to Dr ENT.

Thats exactly what I think, DT - its gone on far too long now.
Did you ask the quack that question, Den?

If not, I would get a second opinion - interesting to see what Sqad says (apart from Ibuprofen - which is part of the cure, I see).
Question Author
I did, DT, and she said antibiotics would not help - though I am puzzeled how they can tell viral from bacterial without a throat swab.
\\\\though I am puzzeled how they can tell viral from bacterial without a throat swab.\\\\

What a very good question.

Well DEN. even if it is bacterial and not viral, you may not need antibiotics as a general rule. However as you feel awful, a gland is up and there is ulceration i will go with the pundits who have suggested the introduction of antibiotics.

That is my considered opinion.

Afternoon Sqad - thats exactly what I think - I have another appointment Wednesday morning, with same Doc, I am going to insist on antibiotics.

Don't laugh, Sqad - I have been trying to take a photo of my poor throat to send to you via email, for your opinion, hahahaha - but my camera lense keeps steaming up....{:o(
OMG, the idea of "Deep Throat" pictures on here.....finger is hovering towards the right of the screen!
DT..............mine too!!!

:)
Question Author
hahaha - don't worry, DT and Nibble I would never post them on here, as they would end up on YouTube having been nastily altered by the more vile amongst us......... I was gonna send them to Sqad's email.
DT, could we do a simultaneous reporting???
This isn't something new is it, where we all have to send photos of our sore bits to Sqad?

Be better soon Towie. x
Question Author
hahaha, afternoon gness, its not compulsory to send photos of one's poorly bits and pieces to Sqad...........Thank you for your good wishes. xx
Phew.....a contortionist I'm not! xx
Hi Towie, I had the exasct same thing a few months ago. Our GP surgery now has a triage nurse call you back when you ring up for an appointment. She rang me and, without even seeing me, told me it would be pointless giving me anti-bs and to take paracetamol.

It didn't improve, so, 10 days later, I called for a GP appointment and the very same nurse called me back and said " do you want to try anti-biotics then"? No, I want to keep having days off work and feeling damn awful please!

Sure enough, within 3 days I was feeling loads better and this was down to the anti-bs. It's pathetic that health professionals don't listen to their patients.

I know, Halifaxmum, these medical professionals think we don't try obvious remedies first before contacting them.

Update: Got an appointment at 4.45 today and saw different Doc - gave me 250mg of Amoxcillian - I hope it works as 4 weeks of feeling rubbish is a little too long.
Good luck, Den hope this time it works.
Well done for persisting, TOWIE, I hope it clears quickly x
