I think school from a anthropological point of view is really quite something. All seem to have universal group types.

There was the top clique, a group of about 15-20 good looking, academically slightly above average, from families that were comfortably off and popular.

There were the dungeons & dragons playing heavy metallers (this was the mid 80s!)

Rough kids from families who liked to perceive themselves as travellers even though they'd never been anywhere

The hard nut and his weak acolyte.

The swots.

The geeky swots.

And all the people inbetween who didnt really fit into any category. Where were you in all this madness?

I was an inbetweener. I should have been the swot that got bullied but I wasn't very clever and all the cool girls were my friend (god knows why) so people left me alone.
good morning.

an interesting question.

i was happy to go to school, and while not exactly referring to myself as a swot - i did study hard and never played truant or skipped lessons.

back then (the early 70's) truancy did exist, but was not as prevalent as in later years.
excelsior ,same as you only back in the50/60's we had the school board man who went round on his bike to look for any one doing what they shouldnt and to check that you wre at home if you werent at school.
in betweener. Not rich, not good looking, clever but distractible, deffo not a swat, bit geeky, I was a heavy duty reader, no computers back in the dark ages.

Funnily enough I bumped into one of the girls who was up there in the top set not long ago. She was always nice, even at school and wouldnt look down her nose at people not as 'cool' as her.

She's still very good looking, bubbly and knocks about with a crowd of similar people, good earners well dressed etc, busy social life.
Inbetween.
I'm still best friends with one of my 'cool girls' and she's exactly like you just described Bool. Everyone loves her. I'm glad she's my mate, she's brill.
I mixed between most of them
Strangely we didn't have groups that excluded others. I was bright..ish, one very best friend, a group of folkie friends on the way to hippydom and friends with everyone except the one school bully.....everyone avoided her.
I say strangely, but I guess we were all united against the common enemy. The nuns and priests.
The bard class for me, chapter and verse.
Teacher's pet!!!!
Totally, learning the art of seduction from a Mrs Robinson.
I was severely dyslexic at a time when dyslexia wasn't recognised at school, so my school days were really tough but I had a good circle of friends from all walks of life but I was always in trouble at school and out of school and the academics was a fail. I never took a single exam, I just scived off on exam days.
I was a misfit.
I was brought up in care and everyone knew it, some didn't care and were happy to be friends with me, most were told by their parents that they were to have nothing to do with me because if I was in a kid's home I must be trouble.
Inbetween - Grammar School 67-72 - prog rock, sporty type, better looking than 50% of my year, not as good looking as the other 72%. O level in maths, bugger all else although female biology was a favoured subject!!!!
I got on with most people at school.................I was in the sports clique.
Definitely an inbetweeny.
Crafty - if you were like the QAGS girls when I was in my teens (I know you're a very few years older than me), you would have been down the bottom of the sports field eyeing up our AHGS rowers at the clubhouse
Sorry WY, I was too busy going out with the well-off St Peter's boys.........
Guy Fawkes went to St Peter's
