Anyone any idea why people talk in their sleep? Thing 1 (3 years old) has just started shouting while she is still fast asleep. She has a bit of a cold but is not poorly. Don't like to think that she is frightened of something, should I wake her up? Thanks.

Why do you call your daughter Thing?

Sorry Maggie, I have Boy 1, Boy 2, Girl and Thing 1 and Thing 2 (hate the term twins - am one myself and was referred to as such through out my childhood 'are you one of the twins'?). I seem to post about them a lot and don't want to give their names on here and didn't know a better/alternative way to differentiate between them (most people who respond to my posts know which child I am referring to by their 'on-screen' names and I don't have to keep giving their ages, etc).
Aww, bless her Sherr.

My four year old sometimes does this, and I always wake her up. Like you, I just hate to think of her as being scared.
Hi sheri,

I would'nt be too worried about it at the moment as probably just a phase that your little girl is going through, and you say she has just started doing it.......if you're concerned about it and it continues for, say, another couple of weeks or so, I would call your GP or HV and discuss it with them for advice and how they can help.

Mrs Bear is in her 40's and she still mumbles away, on occasion, in her yank voice.....think she was dreaming about Desperate Housewives the other night....swift, discreet kick soon shut her up :0)

Best of luck, sherrard and may I say hope you have a very Happy Christmas to you and all the family :0) x
I'm in my fifties, and apparently I not only talk in my sleep, I talk in gibberish, but realistic gibberish if you know what I mean.
Pah... apparently I told the man hostage the other night I wanted christmas pudding so he asked if I fancied brandy butter with it and apparently got a very incredulous and demanding 'yes!' back... I don't remember a thing :c)

Thanks for the replies both - she is a little 'wild' when she is awake so I will keep an eye on her (it would be just like her to be on the go when she is awake and when she is asleep).

Yogi, thank you for the kind seasonal greetings. Hope you and your family have a lovey Christmas too,x.

Sorry Postdog and CD - you weren't there just now! I used to sleep talk, told himself to get the dolphin out of the bath one night (he actually got up to do it).
Lol @ CD :D
I once had an argument with someone who was asleep. I didn't realise until they started talking gibberish. It was very weird....
don't wake her up, but maybe sit with her just in case she wakes herself up! i still talk in my sleep now (sometimes quite entertaining for mr kicker!). i also used to sleepwalk until my late teens, but grew out of it. i think that this is more scary for people who are woken/hear the person (or little person in this case!) burbling away, but mostly will be harmless. discuss with your hv or gp if this persists, but i would say let her sleep - maybe if she is very tired through the day you could try waking her up to see if it makes a difference or not. good luck, sher x
I talk in my sleep quite often. I've called my OH Naz, Molly and Mark...in my sleep, ha
My two younger sisters shared a room when they were children, they actually had sleep arguments, I kid you not... I went in once and blondie was telling baby sister to 'just shut up' and baby sister told her to 'sod off you cow'.... they were both spark out. (I should add they are and always were very close when awake!)
I used to be able to hold a conversation with my eldest daughter when she was asleep and my 14 year old son occasionally shouts out in his sleep, my oh recently asked me if it was time for bobo's (sleep) yet when I was storming out of the bedroom due to his snoring, he was fast asleep. lol
my youngest (3) has just started doing same and my eldest (6) started at the same age.
In fact my eldest will have full conversations and sleepwalk for a good 10 mins before taking himself back to bed.
He had a chat with his dad the other night after walking downstairs, he said he had a naughty word stuck in his head which was giving him a headache but he couldnt say it as it was naughty. He was sobbing and so OH told him it was ok to say the naughty word if it was just to help get rid of headache (dreading what he may say). I cant recall the word but it was something really innocent like "plate" when he finally said it lol. he then stood up, climbed the stairs and got back into bed sound asleep.
I talked in my sleep from a young age. Mum could have a conversation with me to.During one of our "chats" she found out I`d lost my virginity !!!!!
Ps I was nearly 18 at the time
Hardly a night goes by when Bobjugs doesn't talk in his sleep. Usually it's about the zombie apocalypse.
Just wanted to say that thing 1 and thing2 are out of Dr Seuss, not abusive or horrible.
I talk in my sleep, it doesn't always make sense though. I often call out a man's name, it is never anyone I know.
