My toddler has been ill all weekend but worsened this aft so I took him to walk in centre. He had temp of 40 and a throat infection and was inconsolable. I had stupidly come out of house and brought different bag with me without his med in it so he desperately needed some to bring his temp down. By this time it was nearing 6pm and there is only 1 emergency pharmacist open in the area. Got there with a screaming babe in arms to be told he is out on his lunch and will be about 10 mins and theres people waiting before you. What The Funicular? I was not happy and said is there no cover for breaks? No she said. I asked for ibuprfen and she said no I cant sell you it without pharmacist (it was in a locked cupboard). I then argued you dont exactly need a prescription for it and luckily there was some Calprofen on the shelf so she could sell me that. Was this whole situation right though? Surely the only pharmacist in the area should have to be in the building at all times in case he is needed desperately. I was bloody mad!

butterfly tatto, do you really think that is comparable? No, it's not
Naturally, tigwig, you'll have been in a flat-spin, but I'm afraid I have to agree with the others on here who don't find it unreasonable for the Pharmacist to have been out for a while.
It has happened to me, too, but patience, as they say, is a virtue....
ojread - she did.
Butterfly tattoo, sorry but you are not comparing like with like there
Of course the Pharmacist should have his break, but I have a certain amount of sympathy with tigwig.

Why didn't the assistant suggest an over the counter drug?

Dispensing was at one time an art, mixing medicines and potents but now, all drugs come in boxes, the dose and drug well labelled and as such dispensing is no longer a "big deal".
for all we know, the assistant was a young part timer just covering the till.

over acting. it was only 10 minutes.
hello hello did anyone read the post? She DID sell her some otc stuff!
Sorry bednobs, didn't see that bit
bednobs....indeed ...you are correct.

So I agree what was the problem?
considering that tigs actually had some of the same medicine at home that she could have given to little tigwig, i really don't see why she was so mad! (well of course, i can understand that panicking in the moment can make you irrational but can't see why she would still be mad today

Lol I'm not mad now, it was just at the time - along with being tearful and very worried. Just annoying thats all, if there had been an alternative chemist I would have gone to it but its over with now so I will try and forget about it:)
