sor - panicking slightly...even if i am a nursie! if anyone else can help, of course i will be grateful...x
I wouldn't worry - bits have been dropping off me for years :-(
No big deal........take Ibuprofen 400mgms if it is painful
Cover it with Tullegras or something from the chemist and it will grow back to normal in about 4 months.
No need to see a doctor.

However if it does become painful, red and swollen, then seek medical advice as it will probably need antibiotics.

sorry about the delay...been taking to nhs direct again and when i was checking it to describe what was going on, i nudged it and it fell off (quite literally!). cheers for the advice, squad...it's nice to know it may grow back, but under the many layers of black nail polish, the toenail looks quite mutant. maybe i should cut back on that and see if i have a nail infection. painkillers are fine...i take co-codamol, pregabalin, meloxicam an buprenorphine patches for my arthritis! so my toe really is the least of my worries, esp. now i have calmed down a bit...thanks again squad and mrs o x
Icg...a pleasure.
Both my big toenails fell off once Icg and often my little toe nail falls off. Just wonder if this has anything to do with arthritis now! There was no reason for them falling off, no injury or anything. They grew back but they look funny now!
icg I feel your pain.
My little toenail popped off a few months back, grew back weirdly, sort of double thick but seems to be normal now. (Well, for me anyway :))
Painkillers helped me. Also soaking it in a basin of reasonably hot water eased some of it
I know this won't help but ....Owwwwwwwwwwww

thanks, alba. my biggest piggy is now resting after all the excitement with a nice, neat dressing on it. i must say the nail bed looks nice and pink, with the foundations of a nail already on the go. here's hoping x
Just don't do what I did. I kept banging the litte beggar off the end of the bed, a kitchen chair, the kitchen table, it was magnetised to any inanimate object, in fact.
oh my God, i feel quite ill. Is this fairly common? I read your post with mounting horror and I'm stunned that everyone else doesn't see this as anything out of the ordinary!

We are talking about a nail, that's come off!!! Come off!!!! I'd still be flat out on the floor in a dead faint if this happens to me.

As it is my tummy's doing flip flops just reading about it.
B00 your little avatar has always put me in mind of a big toenail LOL
My little toe nails have fallen off for as long as I can remember and so do my son's. I must admit I was a bit perturbed when both my big toe nails just fell off. They just seemed to come detatched. There was no pain in my case. I put nailvarnish on my skin where the nail should have been.

The grew back, but they don't look nice. They are not properly attached even now and my little toe nail continues to fall off!!

In the words of the master

NO BIG DEAL!!

Ha, ha, - I told you I would get my own back BOO!!
haha ,yeah Mamya, can see what you mean.

But seriously, toenails dropping off? *BARFFFF*
I've lost both my big toenails over the last year. Banged one and it went black and fell off and the other one just fell off. Both have grown back, a bit strange looking, but seem ok.
Ha ha, JAN57. Keep them coming, I want BOO to faint!!!
lmao, lottie. No offence lcg, but this has to be one of the most icky threads ive come across- im really astonished, wasn't aware that toe nails could simply just drop off. And i'm even more astonished at the blase attitude from everyoneelse - i kid you not, if this happened to me, once id come round from my fainting spell, i'd be a jibbering wreak.
Mamya! Like that ad for fungal nail infection? I get your drift now - poor B00.
Elsie - no big deal - have lost a few nails in my time, but I am all right now ;o)
Dropping off isn't too bad.

Try ripping one right off, that hurts!
I chopped my friends finger off once, I shut a heavy door on it.

(This is aimed at BOO!!)

It got stitched back on !!
