Yes. Her gg grandfather was Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg Gotha (he married Queen Victoria). Her grandmother Princess Mary of Teck was also of german descent (her father having married into the British Royal family. Her gg grandmother Queen Victoria was also a direct line descendent of the House of Hanover.
Yes,up until 1917 the family name was Saxe-Coburg & Gotha
The Queen of England ?
My kids are of a similar descent, in that their great great garndmother was born in Saxe-Coberg. Most of the Royal Families of Europe are also descended from the House of Hanover, much as how in the 16th and 17th century most European Families were of Tudor descent
George I was the first British monarch of German/Hanovarian descent. His mother Sophia was the great granddaughter of James I.
and that links the Tudors and the Hanovers nicely
Tthis certainly is true!!!!!!!!!!
Although of course she isn't just the queen of England
The Queen of 'England' ?
Exactly Dot. And don't forget the Stuarts.
I think Simon999 means Queen of 'Britain'.
I was hoping that I had missed some NEWS announcement tigger and that we wouldn't be getting the wedding 24/7 in the media.
Sadly not Wolf.
They changed their name to the nice friendly "Windsor" beause of the first world war.

The British became annoyed by anything german at that time (German music etc) so we could not have a german sounding royal family.

Mind you, much of the royal familes of Europe are inter related.

Victoria farmed most of her children out to many Royal Families in Europe.

Some of our British kings could not even speak English, George the first for example who was born and brought up in Germany.
All the more reason for us to rid ourselves of this parasitic family and all the hangers on and replace them with an elected head of State, and no, I don't mean a President Blair or Cameron
But if you elect ANY head of state you may get a Blair or a Cameron (or worse).
I'd rather have a monarch of German decent than an elected president any day.
I used to live in Coburg dotty it's a really pretty place.
Did you know that the Royal Family came via Germany to Camborne in Cornwall.

Camborne, is a huge home for them as well as having the highest number of bakers in England. The commonality in this is that they are all in-bred.
Don't give up the day job ^
Glad it's not just me that didn't follow that
