I had an appointment at the breast screening clinic again this morning, I went about 18 months ago but didn;t go ahead with it as it was in a mobile unit and having never been before I expected a consultation before hand , ended up leaving!
Anyway, I went again this morning, this time to the specialist clinic and got as far as the actual machine, but totally lost it and they said they couldn't carry on as I was too tense and then I fainted : (
I felt bad for wasting their time, I know it's daft, I'm really tough with most things. what is up with me and what can i do to get throught it?
I rang my GP and the nurse did not get back to me . I know all the reasons it needs to be done, why won't I let it get done????

what is it that's stopping you? the pain of the test? the possible results?

hi sara, well it certainly started to feel painful, the radiographer explained that the plate needed to go to 12 neutrons(or something) and she got it to 5 and i just could not cope!
I've got one booked for 16th . It's really not bad at all, slightly uncomfortable. I have had lots as used to have polycystic mastitis . Can you take rescue remedy ?? that is good for stressfull situations.

hi naomi, I havn't heard of that, is it like a calming thing? I was gripping so tight to the damn pole opn the machine i nearly pulled it over !
Dot .. I know this is difficult... but it is something that has to be done......I hate it... I usually cope by taking someone with me that wont let me back out...you know....a strong woman...a bitch...that will back us to the hilt. Look among your friends and ask one of them. No ifs, no buts, just breasts!!!! Good Luck :-)
I've been done too.. I'd pick a mammogram over a smear test any day!

be brave, hold your breath (like you can breathe anyway!) and get it done. can you take someone with you?
Rescue Remedy is good dot.....

My daughter was goping with me but she text me at 7am to say she had forgotten a docs appointment, and my appointment was at 9.10 and they clashed, i wish she had gone it would have helped i think, two of the radiographers were trying to help me but i was having none of it, i need to get it done but i have such a mental block about it
you know, Dot, if they discover something sinister in years to come the treatment would be so much worse than this. you really need to be be brave now x
I sympathise. This is pure torture and I hate it but put up with it.

Dot, I am awaiting results after some tests. My god I have never been so scared and frankly, that machine was invented by medieval torturers. But you are there for seconds, just think, a few second can save your life (and your family a whole load of heart ache). Pluck up the courage and put yourself through it - it is arguably the worst thing I have ever been through (I've had a mammo, ultrasound, fine needle aspiration and a biopsy - the latter was the worst, I can tell you). Please, just do it.

I do think it is the fear of the pain, I'll ring the clinic on wednesday and see if they can let me go again when i can take my daughter, and i'll get some of that remedy stuff, is that from as chemist? Or is it a herbal thing?
I'm just dreading the day I need my prostate gland checked - that's got to be far worse.
Come on Dot . Get it together lass .Shall I come and hold your hand :)
It only takes a few minutes . Think of the women in the world who don't have access to this sort of thing . We are lucky to have this screening programme. .It can be a bit uncomfortable but it's over in no time and then you'll wonder what all the fuss was about .
Just go and get it done .You'll live :)

Hi poodicat ..how's you ?
They've been shoving mine in the pancake maker every couple of years for ages and I'm still here to tell the tale.....
Mind you it's all going south now anyway :))

You may even be able to buy it at Boots .
Sorry for delay ..had a busy day. Rescue Remedy about 5 ( oops nearly typed 35 that would have given you a shock) from Boots or most chemists. Well worth it. Go with your daughter as long as she wont let you wimp out. :o) Quite agree about other tests being worse... that biopsy where they shoot you on the boob ....well I nearly kicked the Doc in the whotsits.
