To quote monkeyeyes last paragraph

If you do choose to respond to such a thread, I think it only proper to do so as if you believe what the poster says. I think it may have been best if those who felt him to be a faker had just ignored him.............

spot on! We just never know for sure and that is why the comments are uncalled for.
If, like me, you have been to the funerals of 3 suicides, you would not think that joke posts should be treated with respect, "just in case".

You would stand with the widows and children and you would think ...

... if anyone thinks that this is a good topic for a bit of fun, they can expect me to have a go at them.

Guys, you are worried about some imaginary "possible" depressants ... you don't seem to have a heart for people with genuine suicide tragedies in their life.

Have a heart guys.
I haven't seen any Lungy posts, where are they?
Jayne, i think an awful lot of us have known genuine suicide cases, i have known two myself ,and im sure each individual who even contemplates suicide acts differently.

The point is that we just don't know for sure if this was genuine or not, thats why we really shouldn't automatically assume that it is a hoax. I would much rather give the benefit of the doubt than not.
I was a Samaritan for three years and one of the myths that I learned are just that - myths - is the notion that people who talk about suicide do not actually go on to kill themselves. We had a client at our branch who visited oncce a week for over a year and talked of his wish to die - and then he hired a car, drove to a remote spot, and killed himself with a pipe through the window.

The Samaritans' philosphy is to take every call or visit seriously. If the get duped, so be it, better that than to dismiss a genuinely desparate person. If you haven't been conned, you are not listening, was how one volunteer put it to me, and I'm inclined to agree.

It's easy to be flippant, but as advised by Raggy , some people do wind up strangers, and some people appear to - who wants to play with lives at sorting them out?

The thing is Jayne you don't know for sure it was a hoax!!!It's not that I don't have sympathy for you and the friends you have lost to suicide at all,it is just that as others have said, you should maybe have just left well alone and not commented in the way you did.
I have nothing against you,I don't know you so how could I? so this is not a personal attack on you,I would say the same to anyone who commented as you did on that thread.
Raggy, there are some very sick people on here, and no subject is beyond their revolting taste.

When LungCancer came on here and said he was dying, and (guess what) was going to kill himselt (!) I had a go at him as well.

A lot of people slagged me off.

When Lungy started posting about the maggots in hid bottom, and eating his own faeces, did everyone say "Sorry Jayne, you were right about this awful hoaxer?"

No. But I was right.

It is less than two monthe since I was at the funeral of a friend#s husband who killed himself.

This is not a suitable subject for joke posts.

I'm too new to this site to know who 'lungy' is I'm afraid. But don't give him the time of day by telling me because it would seem he's not worth the time or space (I trust your judgement!) But how right unrulyjulie is when she said there may be others out there in similar situations who are reading these comments, even if it does turn out to be a hoax. Perhaps 'Mike' will be reading this and will give us a clue - if he hasn't been put off this site forever.
sorry andy - I misread your last post - thought you said a 'pie through the window'.

sorry, poor taste. (the comment, not the pie).

Has that lightened the mood?
Jayne- im no authority on suicide and im sorry, but just because you've known 3 people who have since died I don't believe you are either.

What i find appalling is the way this user was treated. I couldn't give a flying fart whether you believed him or not. I don't believe a good 90% of what I read here, but I wouldn't dream of taking the pi$$ out of them- it's called courtesy.
DJ - with the greatest of respect, you are fighting a losing corner here.
Regardless of your personal associations with suicides or your knowledge of the language of suicides, your comments to Mike have jarred with many of the other posters on here.

Time may well vindicate you but, more likely, we'll never know whether he was genuine or not.

I'm sure you would hate to read a news articleabout a man at the end of his tether reaching out for help and being rebuffed and insulted by those he was reaching out to ? Like the poor man in Ethels link........

We can almost never be certain of the identity or mindset of anyone else on these pages and you cannot point to Lungy's disappointing reappearance here as justification for being unkind to someone else.

I think you should have left well alone.................and that goes to anyone else who was similarly off-hand with Mike.
I am one of the few people on AB who never abuses other ABers, and is courteous to everyone.

However, this guy went too far.

He adapted his story as he went along, he invented a story about Googling "suicide" and finding AnswerBank, and some people STILL thought he might be for real.

Anyone who is that gullible should not be offering advice about suicide.

Monkeyeyes ...

... are you all ignoring this ...

... he claims to have Googled suicide and found AB.

Try it. IT DOES NOT WORK.

That was a lie. A fabrication.

He was on AB because he started out here, not because he ended up here.

Go on ... go to Google, look up Suicide, and try to find AB (I got bored after scrolling through the first few 1000's entries)

It was a lie.

He was lying.

oldgrape ... your search entry included the word "AnswerBank"

Duuuhhh !!!!!
it does come up if you google it also on ask.com
Who are you to judge Jayne?

I think you have lost a couple of mates here today.
Delete the word "AnswerBank" from your search, and the references to AnswerBank disappear.

Jayne, he says he found it by googling suicide but that could have been through other links..........i often find stuff this way, doesnt mean it comes up as soon as you google suicide.
