Hi

I've just started jogging and last night jogged for 7 mins at a pretty slow pace. Does anyone have any ideas of roughly how far this might be? (I know it will be a guesstimate).

Thanks

About 3/4 to one mile Sasha
Well done, if you keep it up you should be able to increase the distance slightly each time and, when you finish your body will realese "endorphins" which will give you a slight 'high' making you feel great.

I do 5-7 miles each day and the odd half marathon

Yay!!! Thanks for your quick reply!

The night before I only managed 3.5 mins, so very impressed with myself. Going to try and do the same route tonight so I can prove to myself it wasn't a one off!!

I'd love to be able to come in from work and think 'I think I'm going to go for a 5 mile run now'.

Been promising myself I'd do it for ages so feeling pretty impressed with myself, even if it was only 7 odd mins!

Thanks again.
Nae probs Sasha
set yourself an achievable target and increase the distance gradually and you'll get there, it's great for your cario-vascular but remember to stretch before and after your run to prevent lactic acid build up.

OK will do - thank you!

Also, yesterday I started to get a bit of cramp in my calves towards the end - will stretching stop this too?
Hi Sasha - well done on taking up jogging - it's totally addictive!

I don't think you'd have managed a mile in 7 minutes that's a pretty fast pace to do 7 min miles. When I go on a training run I do just over 9 min miles and when I race I do just under 8 min miles so I would expect you to be running at somewhere between 10 - 12 minute miles.

If you want to know the distance you have run you could always use a website that allows you to map your route (it also helps if you want to map your route before your run). Here's the link:

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/

When you get more confident with your distances if you want to improve your times/distances I recommend you join a running club. They are great fun and you will meet like minded people and you will find your running will improve significantly. I have found since I joined my club a year ago I get PB's in every race I do.

Sorry this is a bit more info than you asked for - you can choose to ignore it if you wish.

Good luck with the jogging!
I'm really glad you posted that Sasha13!! I too can only manage around 5-7 mins at a time. I am going to stick at it now to see if i can improve! I was going to give up as i thought i was destined not run more than 10 mins! Thanks!

No birdwoman, that's fantastic. I was hoping that I'd done about 1km in 7 mins so it was good that 4GS thought I'd done more - figured that meant I'd def done 1km. (I normally work in miles, but 1km sounded better).

I'll plot it out and see how far I actually went!

Thanks for all the info!

Hi FluffyFairy - that's why I put off doing it for so long - because I never thought I'd be any good at it. But in the end I figured, if I only do 2 mins on the first run, if I aim for 2.5 mins on the next one at least I can see an improvement!

Stick at it! We'll both make it!!!
It will help prevent cramp Sasha,
Also, I take an Isotonic drink with me when I go out, it helps to rehydrate me as I go

I've jut mapped how far I did and it was 0.6 miles or 0.97 kms!

Thanks for that link birdwoman, it's so useful!! It means I can track a route before I do it so I know I'm not going to do something that's too long and get disheartened!

Will take an isotonic drink next time 4GS

Thanks everyone for all your help - feeling really motivated now!
Thanks for that link birdwoman, I've saved it to my favorites:

Took me a while to figure it out too 4GS!
7 slow mins is not nearly a mile!! i jog slowly and it takes 12 mins to do a mile and 42mins to do 3.5miles with no stops, which is slow!!!

keep up the hard work, and try power walking too

i use a great running book for ladies, which is where i started like u

I RAN A MILE!!!

Yay!! so impressed with myself. Did it on Saturday in just under 12 mins, then again on Sunday in just over 12 mins. Was going to go last night, but for some reason didn't think I'd get around so didn't want to try it.

Will do it again tomorrow night.

Thanks for all your support!!
