I fell onto concrete today. I put both hands out to save myself, I can't see any swelling as such and nothing is broken but the pain is extremely bad. I have taken painkillers, they are helping a little. Any ideas what I have done ? Even lifting the kettle is painful.
I'm no medical expert, but I can recommend a wrist brace/support that I used when I sprained my right wrist a couple of years ago. It's called a Thermoskin Wrist Hand Brace, and it's suitable for sprains and strains. It covers the palm of the hand and the wrist, and it has a metal bar inside to support the wrist and thus relieve the pain. I bought it from the local chemist, and it really does give some relief. If you feel like trying one, make sure that you get the correct size.
Get it cheked silka quickly just in case its a break.
(More to do with setting properly - I did something similar decorating years ago and it looked fine but I couldn't do anything with it like you and it was actually broken),
If you had broken it, you wouldn't be able to move it at all. The pain would be excruciating. I talk from experience. Strapping it up sounds a good idea.
chrissa, it is a myth that you cannot move a limb that is broken. Some people have higher pain thresholds and can still move said limb, others have lower pain thresholds and can't. If the bones are misaligned then that may prevent movement.
