what about just not having one done, if you dont want the pain?
Whilst it is painful having a tattoo, the pain is not unbearable, I have had a few done over the years and not a problem with the pain, dont worry, just go and get it done, you will not need pain relief.
A friend of mine is the mardest mare in the world, the slightest little thing hurts her, everything's a drama etc... She didn't need pain relief when she had her tattoo done and actually said that it didn't hurt that much anyway.
If she can do it so can you, stop being such a wuss man! ;o)
There are a few topical crmes available at pharmacies or off the internet. Hospitals commonly use Emla cream, which acts as a local anaesthetic. Its generally used on young children to prevent pain when inserting cannulas though!

You should leave it on for about 30mins; the area will feel tingly and numb and will remain numb for around an hour.

It should cost you no more than 4.00 ;)
Going through the pain means you have earned your tattoo. If you can't take the pain, don't get one.

It's not that bad, to be honest. Feels like a pin being draged through your skin. Deep breath in when the tattooist re-fills the ink, and then slowly breath out while he's actually tattooing. It makes you relax, stops you tensing up and twitching, and gives you something else to think about.

It does catch on nerves sometimes, but it's not too bad.
you big jessie daz!
we go cyprus every year and last year my daughter and hubby had one done they are both mard when it comes to pain, the fella put some cream on where they were having it done and it numbs your arm, they had to go in an hour before for this cream.i dont think it hurts ive never had the cream but they said it made a lot of difference
numbing cream is put on b4 you have the tatoo done. Althou it takes an hour to "kick in" and they don't tend to wait that long. Tatoos don't hurt that much to be honest althou the after burn can sting a little.
ClairyFairy, I no idea what Tattoo artist you been to but I never heard of numbing cream for a tattoo and I have had a few at different places and never needed such a thing.

I think you will be hard pushed for a numbing cream for a tattoo, just get on with it you girlie!!!!
