This appears to be a fairly obscure film in the Garbo collection. Do you have any more information - where you saw the film, is it on video etc?

I saw it on television about 5 years ago, Channel 4 I think. The male star is Melvyn Douglas and the film is based on a Pirandello play. Its date is 1932. Hope this helps...
Hi, I've checked with Turner Classic Movies, someone in their press office has actually watched the film and read all the credits and can find no record of music's name. Maybe this is one we'll never get the answer to.

Well, I think it might be from an opera or something - it sounds as if it could be. I have heard the tune one other time and that was in a restaurant in Prague when a wandering violinist played it. The tune goes ABG..FA....GABGFEbC... (dots indicate longer notes) I'm sure it's really famous. Tell me if you need to know anything else.
