HTC desire

Both me and a friend of mine have bought the HTC Desire G7 smart-phone, as he travels around a bit he sometimes swaps his phone for a cheaper one (in case he should lose it)
and takes the Sim card out of one to put in the other this is because all his contacts are on the Sim card, he asked me this weekend how you can transfer all of the contacts held in the Desire phone to Sim card and it appears that it can't be done, it will IMPORT from a
Sim card but it seems it will only transfer to an SD card, is this correct as I can't seem to find anything about it in the handbook?
