I had an overpayment of tax credits back in 2005 and after them not giving me anything for the next 3yrs they finally reinstated them at the end of 2008. Around a month ago I received a letter from them wanting me to confirm our joint incomes for those missed years so they could work out what, if anything, we were entitled to. I did all this at the beginning of October and the last person I spoke to said I would either be sent out a cheque or an explanation of why I am not owed anything. It's now obviously over a month later and I've heard nothing. Is it too early to contact them again do you think? I am pretty damn sure they will owe me money as 2 of those years I got nothing my other half was barely earning a thing and we earn more now but still get tax credits. (thats counting the overpayment too) I just don't want to sound like I'm desperate thats all lol. Is it too soon to phone back?

They are crap this year. My friends started phoning in June to renew hers and could never get through. She ended up sending the form back knowing it might be late. She got a letter from the in September asking her to confirm a few things (she has a disabled child) and she still hasn't heard from them.

She only has a mobile though and it uses her credit to ring.
Sorry...yes, keep phoning them.
I haven't any dealings with tax credits but have seen lots of things in the press. Each time you call take note of when you called who you spoke to and what they told you (think it was Martin Lewis that said that!) - just to keep yourself right!
i agree with joanie, no harm in calling them, it may stir them onto action, but keep a record of everything, date, time and name of person you speak to, if asked they have to supply there first and last name.
