Have any of you chaps out there ever plucked up the courage to tell your wife/girlfriend that they have put on a bit of weight lately or need to loose a few pounds or even tell them they are fat? If so what was the reaction and did you live to tell the tale? If you are wondering, no I am not about say any such thing to my wife but I know someone who did drop a hint that his wife was getting podgy, didn't go down too well.

I dare you !
I honestly doubt that anyone (male of female) ever puts on a bit of weight without knowing themselves. Nobody needs to be told.
My friend's husband did just that recently and it has been a big blow to her confidence. She isn't fat or even plump at all but he is remarkably skinny. I think it is mean.
telling/nagging people about their weight rarely helps, in fact it can make the problem worse, most people who have gained weight are more than well aware of the fact.
You have to be very careful dave, pick your moment and your words very carefully. I have put on weight since stopping smoking and I know it, but OH keeps reminding me quite regularly and it gets me really mad because I can't seem to shift it. My stock reply at the moment is that unless he is a Johnny Depp or Gorgeous George Clooney he can lump it. Could you suggest that you are feeling a bit bloated and could do with some exercise and does she fancy joining you on a run or gym session? Might work. Hope so. Now if you don't mind I'll get back to my pork pie.

I was about to post exactly the same point.

No-one is oblivious to being overweight, by even a small amount, i know I'm not!

The present Mrs Hughes no longer maintains the svelte shape she enjoyed when we met - but thirty-four years, three children and a hysterectomy can do that to a woman's body.

Happily my love for her is not connected to her hip measurements, any more than hers for me is involved in my lucsious (and now absent!) curly hair.

I would no more mention her weight than fly to the moon, it would hurt her deeply, and I could never ever do that, I love her far too much.
Andy you are a star! Wish a few more could be like you.
Thank you, you are very kind.
Mr Alba (still breathing) often mentions that my curves are getting more curvacous (sp) and please be careful of your health.
The likelihood is she knows already so mentioning it would suggest to me a desire to put someone down. A long term ex of mine once said to me 'well you don't look fat with your clothes on'. I realised eventually that meant he didn't love me.
When I first started going out with one man, I weighed 8 stone, and he told me he wanted me to lose a bit of weight as he liked the anorexic look. I was not pleased.
aww Prudie :( xx
I don't care who you are or what the relationship, unsolicited critical personal remarks are never ever polite or kind.
Andy, Mrs Hughes is lucky to have such a kind and loving husband.

Alba, I could come round and kick him in the shins if you like??

I have to say when I met Mr P I was working very hard physically and was only a size 8. 15 years, 2 kids and many many cakes later I'm definitely not an 8 anymore.

Bless his heart, he says I don't look any different to him than I did when I was smaller. He still fancies me as much as he ever did, and actually says that he likes my stretch marks as it shows that I carried our babies.

He really is a darling. (Don't tell him I said that.)
thanks 2sp, I just rub his belly and ask if there's a genie in there! lol
Oh! God........the AB wives are at it again.............bruuuuup!
there are some lovely men who we're lucky to ove and love us back, it's what's on the inside, not the outer, those who judge on the outer shape are shallow and not worthy of our love or respect.
lol sqadlet, use the sickbag :-)
OMG! it 's getting worse.
