Mr Alba and I were playing a word game, the solution was Violist which I pronounced as Viol (as in Violent)
He snorted and said it's vee-olist, you know, alba, a musician.

Lawdy, I got an A in Higher English, my defence was there were less words around then, to which he agreed.
I'm now thinking of a patio :-)

When I was about 10 or 11, I pronounced Chicago as Chy-sa- go. It was ages before anybody told me the correct pronunciation, because my "friends" enjoyed having a laugh at my expense.

When I was about 7, playing scrabble with older brothers, mum, dad, anut and uncle, I submitted PIF, when they asked me wot on earth was it, and explained to them, they told me it was PITH.

Just remembered that my grandaughter's first "boyfriend" at school was called Lewis Duffy. My DIL decided to get a small present for him at Christmas so bought personalised pencils from the Studio catalogue. All OK til his mum said that their surname was actually Duthie.
