I have an external hard drive that works fine on my XP machine (plug and go) but I cannot get it to work on my 98 machine. Have installed the drivers and it tells me this has been successful. I now have an icon in the toolbar for removing the device when I connect it. But I cannot get it to appear in Explorer as a drive. Any ideas?

My ancient notebook is a 98 machine, and I have the same problem. Is your HDD a USB device? A lot of them will only work with 98SE. Unfortunately my notebook (a Sony Viao) has so many proprietary devices that I can't upgrade the OS :-(.
D'oh! Didn't notice the title properly! So, is your OS 98 or 98SE?

It's 98SE. SO should be ok and System Profiles area tells me that it is installed correctly and working ok. I just can't see it.
Erm, how is the hard drive formatted? If it is NTFS then the XP will see it OK but not the 98SE (which can only see FAT and FAT32 partitions).
