Because it is an open site - children can access this site - this is a family site and STOP SHOUTING.
I don't mind swearing at all. I can swear along with the best of them. However, it has been refreshing to find a site where people are so literate and can string sentences together without the use of swear words. Swear words have their place and are good to use when we are angry and frustrated. However, in my opinion they are often used these days instead of adjectives and inappropriately. Lecture over!
Tell you what....we'll stop censorinng (sic) when you stop shouting and learn to speel...ok?

....and posting about half a dozen answers to your own questions.

I personally mind swearing. I think it degrades a conversation or debate that people have to degrade themselves to swearing. If it's due to an event that has happened and has angrered the person then swearing is an annoying outlet which to be honest, makes me think less of the person whom is swearing. There are other ways to express yourself rather than resorting to swearing, or using captial letters all the time :-) At least it's not text speak _
I'm glad swearing is not allowed. It makes the site more civilized and intelligent.

I think the bad word chopper is about right. Civilised decent folk don't need to post profanity to express themselves effectively. Oh, by the way Darth gets away with it because he is on the dark side.
The way I deal with the idiotic censorship on this site is to punch myself repeatedly in the face as punishment for stupidly continuing to live in a world with censorious ***** in it, then drink a lot of alcohol and fall asleep on the floor. I would recommend this to all my fellow answerbankers.
there are plenty other places you can go and swear!

ok i'm sorry.
I have to agree that AB is a site open to all members of the family, and I certainly would not want my children reading much of the profanity used. This is not because they never use it themselves, or are ignorant of swearing, but because it would be nice to show them that adults can carry out serious discussions without resorting to it.
However, I have to admit that certain questions will always provoke an emotional response, and therefore swearing. This unfortunately is a fact of life that we have to live with, and has long as it doesn't cross over into everyday conversation I can understand (if not approve) of it.

I find it mildly amusing that swearing should provoke such a response, yet sarcastic comments made to new comers that the question they have asked has already been asked a thousand times and 'No, we still don't know the answer' does not. It should be remembered that not everyone out there is fully conversant with computers and the web. I believe that regulars should be a little more tolerant at times.

I do mind the swearing and the sarcasm, too. A sense of humour, or abstaining from replying where you feel provoked, is preferable.
I do mind bad language and think the censor gremlin gets it about right ...also it give sus the occasional laught like "weightwatchers"
Damn it didn't work...
That's because the profanity filter has (finally) been rewritten, as promised
