I think the point is that this isn't designed to be a website for idle chatter.
Personally, I don't have anything against it, but some people seem to be very 'involved,' replying to anything and/or everything, asking personal questions about the registered users... There are other websites for that sort of thing. x

the thing is people on here are being friendly we are not using offencsive language and are not being horrible to anybody so i just dont see the problemxxx
I'm sick of hearing everybody complaining about how miserable some people are being on AB. We are only attempting to answer people's questions seriously so stop being so god damn frivolous.
Oh My God! Its still going on. ABed gave us CB last year coz everyone chatted to much in the categories. Then..... they took CB away as they said it wasn't working. But at least it kept the rest of the site clean! Now people are moaning again that the site is too chatty! Its ABeds fault.. people will always chat, so either give them somewhere to do it or 'shhhh' ya face :o)
I must agree with Waldo and malaise on this one stylinsam. We're not being miserable at all and you have to bear in mind that B+S is just that, i-e answers to question relating to B+S. I agree its nice to see members having a giggle,God knows we all need to laugh these days but members ARE here to offer advice to each other on more serious problems. x
but does it hurt to do both????. i don't see the problem, when serious answers are asked, they get answered and when silly questions are asked, they get answered too. Best of both worlds. There is enough room on here for both, surely. you know if the question is serious or a bit silly before you go into it so avoid it if you don't like a bit of banter. Its easy!!! Surely life is about having a bit of fun too!!! Personally, i've enjoyed both on here. i'm with stylinsam

if you dont like the questions dont read them simple as thanx for backing me up jules xx
This is why CB was soooooo mega handy. Cb was for chatter.. so people knew not to take it seriously and the people that didn't want to chatter stayed in the other categories. I know we all rowed abit in CB but it did work ABed.. you have to admit!
chatting is just a natural progression of answering the question. sometimes, a question will lead into another one and so on and so forth. Thats human nature surely! Thats how good discussions come about. I am hearing a lot about chatterbank and it sounds like its sorely missed!

I love hearing about people's lives. I came to AB for serious questions and answers but started to build a rapport with people who I wanted to find out more about (that's just the kind of person I am). I admit I ask personal Q's but they are intended as purely as fun. I'm not posting the same question repeatedly and as far as I know people have fun answering them. We all know the category that the majority of these 'stupid' Q's are posted, but it's not compulsory to read or answer them. It might knock other posts down, but do what I do, go onto the next page until you're up to date- it's only an extra click of the mouse.

Let's all just have a bit of fun! (That's me done- I don't enjoy being serious :-) x

Jules, If you'd read my post properly you would have noted my remarks re us all needing a good laugh these days. Im not saying I dont enjoy some of the banter and neither am I miserable. I just think too much space is taken up with questions such as "How are you today?" etc. We really need to put the more serious questions 1st. stylinsam its a bit silly to say "Dont look" when its staring us in the face. You should have written "Dont reply"

obviously fina you have a problem with me because i made a typing error and you are making me out to be stupid OK DONT reply to the question.

changed it

all i want is a bit of fun i dont think iv seen any serious questions being asked in b+s for a while and wen the serious questions are asked people reply to them sensibly cant it work both ways and stop being so childish about it.
if this thread continues in the same vein for much longer, I think it might provide the perfect example of why CB was pulled.
I think Mrs Ed is thinking that the site needs new categories...

A Football banter one

A less formal B&S one.

The majority of people on here like the fact that AB currently provides the best of both worlds.

It is an excelent site that many many people enjoy...but would not enjoy if it became completely formal.

If I were a betting God, I would bet that the above two categories appear in the future. Mrs Ed is currently spending a few days up here in heaven having discusions with me and the other Gods to that effect.
stylinsam. Calm down! This is merely a discussion. I dont have anything against you,why should I? I was just pointing out the difference between "Dont read"and "Dont reply". As for me acting childish at 57 years old Im well past that. Have a nice day:-)

Hi all

Greetings to the most high Zeus -

indeed, we are currently in talks on how to better organise the ole AB. Changes will not happen overnight though...regulars will know that time moves a bit slower on the AB than in realtime (whatever that is)...we do not want the AB to turn into a big chat room, but there is room for informal banter - just check out the folks in Q&P or indeed those who post in Sports. What gets boring is people complaining and then people complaining about people complaining. Those posts will be removed, if only because they annoy your moderator.

Welcome stylinsam!

Real time. Does that correspond to the AB clock? Which is about 6 minutes ahead of the real world.

FINA i did read your post properly and took your point, i wasn't answering you in particular!. All i'm trying to say is that i feel there is room for both. If serious questions were getting missed then i could see the problem but to me, it certainly looks like these are answered aswell. i can see your point with questions along the line of "how are you today?" 'cause its a bit vague and a little uninteresting to read. But nevertheless, no harm or offence comes of this question being asked. Personally, i would opt to bypass it.

Like I said before, the problem is not with the friendly chatty NATURE of the posts, it is the amount of them. There are so many "how are you today?" type posts going on at the moment, that the genuine questions are being pushed off the bottom of the page far faster than normal. This means that people who need a response about an emotional or medical issue are not getting the amount of responses they might, because more questions are being posted-for the sake of it- about not very much at all.

I agree that this is not a chat site- it is an Answer bank, where people come to genuinely get an answer/opinion from as many people as possible. People are in a fix and need help. I have actually stopped reading the questions in Body and Soul now, because they have become so trite! But I do want to help people who genuinely would like a response to a problem, not a discussion on our favourite colours etc.

No offfence meant, everyone!
