'you evil, bloodthirsty ugly little hoo-ray tramp' I reported a question with this comment in it. Its still up. The individual who said it has a track record of deliberately offensive comments and seems to lead a charmed life on this site, whereas others get permanently banned. I find this interesting.

WM is deliberately controversial with his views and most of the time he is either trying to provoke a debate or stating what we are a bit reticent to say.In his defence he is not nasty to other users.I enjoy his posts because as I have said before he is very articulate and funny. At least he has the courage of his convictions unlike I have to say some others users who berate people subtely, but at the end of the day wont stand up and be counted when pulled up for it.

Give me straight - talking WM anyday and as you have already said - you have used the report button.(Dont think much happens with deletions over the weekend tho):)

If you've already reported a post & are not happy that it still remains, you can contact the AB Ed via the Contact Us at the bottom of this page - if need be.

This is the correct procedure & much better than naming & shaming any one person on here.

hal didn't actually name anyone, and I've not personally seen any capacity for shame from the person involved... While I suspect Drisgirl is correct, I'm uncertain why there should be a distinction between being insulted by someone articulate and someone inarticulate. Reported post aren't deleted over the weekend but may be temporarily removed from the site, for consideration on Monday by the Ed, if enough people report them.

jno-You are right.I read the post and if people arent familiar with WM then I agree everyone has a right to report if they find it offensive.I didnt actually mean that only articulate people should be deemed exempt - I was merely giving my opinion.

I wholeheartedly agree that every ABer should have the facility to report a Q and/or Answer if they deem it offensive.Like what you said the Ed can then decide.

Yes I did read hal's question jno & am very well aware that he/she didn't name or shame anyone personally within it.

My second paragraph was referring to a previous complaint which appeared on here a couple of weeks ago, where someone did name a particular person.

Is that okay with you jno, or shall I ask for the AB Ed's permission?

In total agreement with hal.

Genuine question here? Forgive me for being naive, but what exactly is the problem with the phrase? It contains no expletives, it's not racist, the evil, bloodth...sorry, lady in question probably won't venture onto this site to read it, all it seems to do is express an opinion. A very forthright opinion, yes, perhaps overly so, but I don't see what is so bannable (is that even a word?) about it.

The day we start seeing questions removed just because we don't agree with the sentiments expressed will be a sad one indeed.
Actually, cancel that question. I guess it would come under the heading of "Abusive", although it's unlikely that the person it's aimed at will ever read it. I've seen far worse abuse dished out on Chatterbank, and that was aimed at people who were going to read it (I remember the repeated nonsense that people like Rubyrose had to put up with).

"The individual who said it" himself has come up with far worse in the past, so I'm not sure why this comment has been singled out, unless you report him on a regular basis. I reckon he's going soft in his old age!

Still think the correct procedure is best - rather than telling tales one here!

Press the report button, or contact the AB Ed via the link below - as he/she asked a couple of weeks ago. Then give him/her a chance to look at the offending post, thus allowing him/her to make up their own mind as to whether it should be deleted or not.

AB Ed is the Boss after all.

*on

I think we are all aware of that Smudge, but sometimes people act impulsively.

Yes I know we're all aware of that gessoo, but there are newcomers to the site too, who may not know the correct reporting procedures.

I am merely reiterating what the AB Ed has suggested we do.

Question Author
I have reported it through the appropriate channels and it is still there. i am very surprised that this kind of gratuitous comment about a named person is allowed on this site. This is why I brought it up here. I can only assume that the Ab Ed's personal feelings about foxhunting have clouded have affected her/his judgement.
Hal, I am personally very much opposed to foxhunting and the whole damn Countryside Alliance (even though I live in the heart of the country), but don't think it is necessary for postings such as the one you have reported. I do not think the editor would leave it on for the reason you have given, though.

Morning Hal - it is only Monday morning, so perhaps the AB Ed is catching up with other important issues.

I e-mailed him/her yesterday asking to delete one of my duplicated knitting posts, but it's still there, so don't worry, just have a lovely day....!

....Back to cleaning the bathroom!

P.S. I am totally against Foxhunting too!
I could quite easily make a comment like WM's about the so called 'lady' in question - in fact it might be a lot worse! However, I do think the comment should not have been made on this site. And I agree with Hal that WM gets away with a lot more than most of us.
Perhaps because he likes to charm the ladies!!
Hal - the Ed must be doing the rounds now - my request for my duplicated knitting thread has been granted!
It's now been edited.
