//'Release Jon Venables and he WILL kill again': James Bulger's father pleads to parole board not to free his son's murderer as he prepares to make latest bid for freedom//
Absolutely not.
//In Venables' last failed bid for freedom in 2020, the Board said he still showed an attraction to sexual violence as the reason for keeping him locked up//. What has changed in that time?
The other one was released over 20 years ago, and has been lawful since. But this one appears to have grown from an evil child to an evil adult.
And whatever the reasons, I can't see him ever being safe for release. He is exactly rhe kind of person the death penalty was created for. No hope.
While we can all understand the opinions of both parents of poor James Bulger, his murderer(s) should be punished as the law dictates. If he is deemed fit for release, then so be it. Ditto if he is not.
Pixie, i'm not saying he ought to be released, and i don't think he will be. In an ideal world, anyone who deliberately takes the life of another person ought never to see the light of day again, imho.
But, despite it's flaws, i do still believe, and have faith, in the British justice system.
Ken, yes, the centralised justice system took over prosecutions centuries ago to try to stamp out blood feuds, lynch law, mob rule and the like. I'm fine with that. I'm also fine with Venables being kept locked up, but not because the victim's family say so.
He should be released and with a new identity, but closely supervised by people who know what they are doing. It's pointless listening to the father of the victim.
I really can't answer the question by the OP and nor am I qualified to answer, but I am damn sure that I would not like to be a member of the Parole Board dealing with his request.
