It all revolves around the fear of Islamisation of the West, something that has been dismissed or denied by many Abers mainly of the left leaning Political persuasion.
What can the UK do about it? Not a lot it seems, it being a King Canute situation.

Britain has been changing steadily since I was born in 1953, and it didn't start changing then. Anyway, at what point on our history did our "identity" become a fixed point, from which we can measure all subsequent changes ?

it could be nothing at all to do with free speech or
saying what we think

Both Gandhi ( great as he still is etc ) and Jinna realised in 1947 that if they didnt agree - they would both be given countries to govern - - -
so they didnt agree !
INdia was partitioned and they both got countries to govern
Whether or not the peoples were served by this is moot

No mosques....a few Italian immigrants, the occasional Caribbean, but no Muslims. In London during that decade, still no mosques, but multicultural restaurants had developed......the occasional Muslim in the East End.
I would say that it was in the 70's that our "identity" was started to become eroded.
