Do you think there are any "cliques" on the AB site? Sometimes feel that there are "in" jokes and some seem to know each other rather well. Am I being paranoid?
No, I think you are making an astute observation. It's a simply a thing that happens with groups of people, and some people are more cliquey than others.
Personally I believe there is a fine line between being part of a clique, and being a party to bullying.
Some people do know each other better than others. Some are on here more often than others so I think that is bound to happen. And yes, there will be private jokes sometimes, but I think no one is excluded from joining in if they wish to.
The post of Mosaic is absolutely correct, although I have to say that the cliques are less obvious and pernicious as they were some twelve months ago due to some clique members "quietening down" and some not posting at all for reasons of their own.
Cliques are, by definition, 'exclusive' - any groups inside AB tend to be inclusive and welcoming - the general motto seems to be "come inside, it's bonkers in here, please deposit sanity by the door" ...
I don't think there are any cliques, but those who have been posting over a long period get to know how others' minds tick, and can use little asides they know will be understood by the recipients (as well as little humorous digs they know won't cause offence).
I couldn't see why everyone kept referring to owls when I first used AB on a fairly regular basis, but it seems to have been proscribed.
