Oops am brand new on here and clicked too soon!
My cat has what I believe is called 'cat acne' on her chin. I bathe it with salt water and it starts to get better, but it never fully gets better because she scratches at it. Any ideas how to cure it? Thanks

I wonder if she's developed a scratching habit. could the vet get her one of those sad looking cone things so she can't reach to scratch for a while?

Thanks for the replies.
The vet advised me to bathe her chin twice a day with salty water, which I have been doing, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I will try a mild antibiotic soap and see if that helps. If not, she's due at the vets in a few weeks for her annual jabs, so he can take another look at it then.

I would take her back to the vet before her jabs are due. My cat gets a fat bottom lip every so often (we thought at first he'd been stung) but it's been diagnosed variously as an allergic reaction or acne (both of which mentioned in wolf's link). I am now given antibiotic tablets for him when it flares, and it clears up in only a few days. It would be so hard for your cat not to scratch if it itches, and my cats are terrified of the cone collars and when they tried them, they spent all their time running backwards trying to get out of them. Try the vet again!

I know what you mean about the neck cones. When she was neutered and she had to wear a cone it was awful - I don't know who was more distressed, her or me!
Will try the tea tree oil and get her back to the vets a.s.a.p.
