I used to walk up and down the ginnel (part of it with no housing) and across the park, even at night.
I came home one night to find the entire park and alley selaed off by the police with forensics all over the place due to this...

It was also on Crimewatch.
I was a hell of a lot more careful after that.

It's a bit northern Jane ;)
Thing Coronation Street, the little passageways between the back of houses.
I had a stern talking too by the boys in the street after that as they knew I used the alley and park all the time.
It was horrible, I looked after 4 houses with tenants in the street and went to do a reccy to make sure everyone was accounted for (police would only say nasty assault at that time). One of my housemates was missing and we wouldn't get hold of her.
We were literally just walking up to the police line to report her missing when she texted to say she was ok.
The whole park was sealed off for about a week and we had to sign in and out and had a mobile police station put up and loads of police interviews, they even tested some of the guys in the street for DNA and such.
I think it was the nature of it, no obvious motive, he had two knives and stabbed her 7 times, it was only about 7pm as well. Don't think they ever caught him, not that I heard anyway.
Really makes you think when it happens on your own doorstep.

yes.. mad! someone from the Suzy Lamplugh trust was on TV yesterday and said that we shouldn't talk on our mobiles, or have earphones in, etc.. as we don't pay enough attention to what's going on around us.
it's a shame though, considering it's getting dark at 5pm..
and can we talk in English, please!!
